Houston area radio notes (update thread)

Where is the other 94.9 coming from? The one I hear close to Jacinto City. Radio Éxitos or Radio Éxito. Plays lots of classical Christian music.
Is that KPFG-LP in Pasadena? I’ve heard them when in the Pealand area.
And also I have noticed that Radio Fortaleza International hasn’t been on air for a while.
That would be KRUT-LP. I haven’t heard them in quite some time when in that general area. Wasn’t that the one with the bent antenna?

It was originating from the A-Toyo salvage yard on North Shepherd and West Tidwell when I was last in the 4-4, and yessir, it's what we would call a lil' cattywampus.

Might keep an eye on KLAT. Chatter on the Miami board that the LMN stations are about to be sold. Might this be the long speculated absorption into Audacy? What would Audacy do with KLAT?

Have the Commission place a D in front of it.

That's not a funny, but a logical reality. No night site, no translator, no real programming in many a moon, and a large day array that's land could be better suited for a beautiful neighborhood of newly built and overpriced housing stock.

If that's not the end result, then you might as well prepare the license's future corresponding paperwork for the mailbox on Pasadena Blvd. I mean, he bought what's left of KEYH. I suppose a recent return to daytimer status for 10-10 wouldn't be any sort of deterrent.

In the most recent STA filing LMN claimed they were close to having the array modification for nighttime service ready to go. Will only cover the east side of the market.

I suppose Audacy could move BetMGM to 1010 to have the format on a full time signal, while selling off 650 or turning in its license.

The land under the KLAT array is a likely candidate for infill redevelopment, as the Houston urban sprawl leapfrogged it years ago.

Game changer right there, I'll tell you what. 😂 Covering half of the metro works so well as history has, on numerous occasions, taught us.

Oh no! Not the KIKK-er! Someone, quick, call Radio One and see if the Country Legends library can be dusted off and gifted to Audacy..

Uh-oh... it's yet another daytimer with no translator, and a prime candidate for the dust bin. 🤷

Hopped Acres Homes and Near Northside for awhile, too. Look at both neighborhoods now. Gentrification has, slowly but surely, kicked in to gear.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if we're having this very same conversation about KMIC in the next year or two

Just using the 3.58 diameter LPFM estimator for 100 watts at 100 feet (versus 125 watts at 103 feet for K212FV) I'm seeing 2,257 people. Not many folks at all. Even given the low price of operation, I doubt the local support would cover expenses.

Doubtful in the case of this one.

The land it sits on is virtually worthless. It's bounded on the north by a drainage ditch, on the west and south by homes, and on the east by businesses. The only entrance is through a residential neighborhood.

It costs almost nothing to operate, and will likely continue to be the dumping ground for whatever network needs a Houston clearance for quite some time.

I wonder if they will be able to move the translator to Livingston or even somewhere like Huntsville on a different frequency. If only the Huntsville translator didn’t move to 89.1 that would be really cool.

(I don’t know the rules I’m just talking)

What's up with the RDS metadata from most of our Spanish language stations? Not one single Spanish language station is broadcasting song information on PS. The Univision cluster puts artist info on RT, but not all units display this information which is why it's been industry standard to use the 8 characters on PS to display as much info as possible.

The weirdest thing is that KROI-FM has the PS and RT advertising Cheque Gonzalez. It's such an odd thing for the PD to put his name on loop 24/7. But I can't say I'm surprised given that Raul Alarcón's name is advertised at every TOH ID.

Cheque is on from 3-7. IIRC, SBS usually doesn't add song info to their stations. WSKQ doesn't have it, but WPAT & La Privada so. WSKQ's HD only has the on air talent's name and photo.
