Houston area radio notes (update thread)

KLTW is blazing heavy here in Houston even on HD, all 3 HDs are covering very well.
That’s just tropos. They do seem to have the easiest HD to get out of the 3 though. KCOL HD seems to only lock if I get that HD stronger than KKBQ HD which is quite rare.

The FCC has dismissed three applications for Houston area LPFMs:

95.1 in Spring, Radio Casa de Adoracion TX

96.1 in Whaley Corner (Fort Bend County) Church of the Last Call

99.7 in Alvin, YAHWEH HTX

Have to admit I’ve never heard of Whaley Corner.

With a church in it named "The Last Call", I reckon no one who's ever even been through Whaley Corner likely remembers it.

That's a new one on me, too, 🐸. Bottoms up, and a tip of the Stetson hat to the fine folks of Whaley Corner, whether Katherine is a resident or not. (Houstonians will get that bad joke, even if y'all out-of-staters won't).

Whaley Corner is generally south of Sugarland. It is at a 45 degree curve on FM 762. Brazos Lakes subdivision is there. Other than that, not much there.

It sounds like the 96.1 in Sugar Land is back on the air-with *MUCH* better processing and coverage than before. 97.3 in Richmond still has practically inaudible audio (unless you crank it all the way up.) I sent then a note <in English and Spanish.) I was not surprised when they did not reply.

What’s on air?

I know the SportsRadio 610 to FM thread got shut down, but word out of Buffalo today is that Audacy sportstalker WGR 550 is adding an FM simulcast on 107.7. That leaves Houston and Sacramento as the only Audacy sports stations confined to AM.

The new 107.7 signal for WGR is a rimshot to both Buffalo and Rochester. Might Audacy consider a rimshot for Houston?

I hope not. I hope they go full-bore on one of them. Likely 101.1 if they do it at all. If they are gong to stick their neck out, they need to do it with a signal that can get the job done. KLOL-FM can certainly do that.

I hope not, Mega is still one of the best stations in Spanish speaking market.

The published numbers certainly don't reflect that. Suffice it to say, Mega will not be outlasting the longevity of its predecessor.

Now, 🐸. Buffalo has an Audacy-owned rimshot. Houston does not. As Josh aptly stated, it's got to be a full market, Senior Road signal if they do pull the trigger on 610 going to FM.

You already have a rimshot FM sports station down there. You may know of it. It's the one you've sold off more times than a Cal Worthington Chevrolet, partner. 🤣
