KFNN Power Up

Bringing this over from the Lamptimer thread, as KayFuNN 1510 seems
to be playing "illegal power alien" once again...

Excerpted from yesterday:

...this morning they were already on daytime power at 5:57 (September power up is 6:15). I had the same signal strength reading on the old Sangean 909 meter here in the 'Tuke at 5:57, at 6:15, and at 6:30. In fact, the meter reads the same now at noon as on those three earlier checks.

And the same M.O. today as KFNN powered up at 5:59:13 AM. Again the signal
strength reading was identical after power up, at 6:15, 6:30, and 9:20.

A seven-watt PSRA? Don't think so. More like their 22 kw daytime pattern being
turned on way too early.

As always, the KayFuNNsters are more than welcome to come on the board and
give us their side of the story. And bring your transmitter logs. <grin>

Who's left to complain about K-FuNN's power grab? Not KGA in Spokane...they reduced their nightime power and signal to accomodate a sister station on the same frequency in the Bay area. Not WLAC in Nashville...they're an hour or two ahead of Mesa time and skywave interference is not an issue. Hmmmm...most likely it's KSPA in Ontario (el Lay burb) who will be on nightime power of 1kw when PST kicks in and most affected by K-FuNN's unauthorized 22kw signal before local sunrise. But does a station playing Dean Martin, Perry Como and Sinatra care about illegal power grabbers from Arizona? I think not..but Nurse Jeff still wants to file a citizen's arrest!

You'll need to get Gomer Pyle involved to do a "citizen's a-rayst, citizen's a-rayst!" <wink>

I tuned in at 5:33 and I'm pretty sure it was on full power then. But I don't have a Sangean 909, or any radio with a meter for that matter, so I can only go by what I hear.

Maybe it's a mistake on their license? ;)

I know of a station that was powering up 30 minutes early every Novemeber for some 20 years 'cause the FCC put the wrong time on the license.

Tuesday September 8:

KayFuNN 1510 played nice this morning. In fact, they played so nice
they were even a bit late powering up--6:15:40.

Geez guys, I don't think that makes up for the 5:55s, 5:59s, et al,
so far this month. <roll eyes>

uhhhh...maybe someone on N Central reads this stuff?!

Wednesday 09/09/09:

No, KayFuNN did not wait until 09:09:09 this morning (much less 6:15),
they were already powered up at 5:58:30.

Would that be somebody inside those lavish studios on N. Central?

Looks like they put their call on an old fish & chips building.

hmmmm...didn't Arthur Treacher used to hang there, too? Think of all the exposure those calls get to riders of snail rail. No wonder they power up early...it's to reach all the street people ridin' Skippy's Folly with pocket radios tuned to 15~Ten!

Friday September 11--already powered up at 5:58:10 AM.

OTOH, in the evening they've been playing by the rules, as the several
times I've checked since the beginning of September, they've already
been down to 100 watts by 6:30 PM.

It's almost as if we have "good board op, bad board op" at KayFuNN.

Monday's power up was at 6:13:33 AM--well within specs, I'd say.

Today (Tuesday), KFNN was already powered up at 5:56:10.
Naughty, naughty!

It seems to Nurse Czarina Jeff and me that KFuNN knows how to reduce power at sunset, but trashes the time at sunrise. The motivation is simple: gotta reach those power peeps at 6am if they're gonna get top $$ rates. Can't say the same about anything post 6pm...in fact, the monotonous Gary Kaltbaum show is a replay of his 3pm show on 15~Ten! Mystery solved by the Buckeye Boyz Czars.

Apparently Ron Cohen & Bryan Memmott Don't care about the license... if the times are not consistent.

Hopefully someone does soon.

So how did the KayFuNNsters do with their 6:15 AM target
for the balance of the "business week"?

Wednesday: already powered up at 6:03:10 AM.
Thursday: already powered up at 5:51:15 AM. 5:51:15!
Today (Friday): already powered up at 5:55:50 AM.

Yeah, but the PIG is still squealing several times and hour on the air anyway.

Thursday, October 1 (monthly daytime now 6:30 AM-6:00 PM):

At 5:52 AM KayFuNN was inaudible, but by 5:55 they had powered
up to something more than their 100 w-N.

Some sort of PSRA? 22 kw-D? I don't know, but the signal strength
on the Sangean 909 meter here in the 'Tuke was the same at 5:55 as
it was at 6:55. There was no further boost evident at/around 6:30.

The K-FuNNsters welcome your questions: http://www.kfnn.com/Contactform.asp Please let us know what you find out as all of this smells wrong to the Buckeye Boyz! (wouldn't it be interesting if they received 50+ questions regarding the premature E.D.* of their day power?)
