KFNN Power Up

Dr. Akbar said:
To verify they're running legal, Oldiesfan would have to take a measurement at 5:30am when KFuNN is supposed to be running 100 watts. Then at 6:30am when they're using their PSRA. And then after 7am when the Big 15~Ten cranks out the Big 22kw.

Doc, you may recall I've done that a number of times, the latest being during
KayFuNN's "Oktoberfest Of Aural Inconsistencies."

During the nightttime 100-watt operation, there are no bars on the meter,
and the station's audio is between not there and very slightly there, which
depends on how many other signals are fighting it out on 1510.

When they were powering up about 36 minutes early, the signal strength
read the same as later on during daytime hours, so unless the KayFUNN
tech staff can post something to convince us otherwise (transmitter logs?),
I'll still maintain they were running 22 gallons from 5:54 AM to 6:04/6:09 PM
during quite a few days in October.

November seems to be a different story, as once again today the KayFuNNsters
were well within specs--powering up at 6:59:03 AM and down at 5:29:01 PM.

Running the above through the Akbarizer 3000 computer, the Nurse Czarina and I get the impression you're saying KFuNN went from 100 watts to 22kw in October without using their PSRA. In November they are obviously using PSRA between 6 and 7am, otherwise we can't hear 'em at the Buckeye Media Hut. Too bad no one from the Big 15~Ten will man-up and give us the skinny. It's a shame as this thread would be quickly put out of everyone's misery! YIKES!

I didn't know you do impressions. ;D

I'm not so sure about that, and won't be until Mr. Tower Site, the C.O.G.* or
catfish (with a "C") clear up the mystery of just how many watts are allowed
in the KayFuNN PSRA--assuming they do indeed utilize it.

If it's the simple four watts as shown in one column, that's much less than 100,
no matter which pattern they're using with it, and if you have to multiply four by
some formula which is a number less than one ("0.XXXX"), you come up with even
less wattage.

One thought on why you may be hearing a faint signal at some point before 7:00--
this being early in the month the sun is up for quite a while before power up time,
so by then the other 1510 signals will disappear, leaving only KayFuNN.

*: C.O.G. = Cranky Old Gringo :)

Remember... The KayFuNNsters are an uppity bunch, as most with a financial background are. :'(

Excellent suggestion as the world waits in nervous anticipation for an answer. I'll have Nurse Czarina Jeff contact the Three Amigos of Ancient Modulation and enlist their help. This one far exceeds our level of mediocrity!

There is a chance a newer PSRA and PSSA may be in effect, as KGA, the limiting station, recently neautered its night facility to enable co-owned KPIG in Marin County, CA, to increase power. At the same time, the protection on KGA would be reduced. In any case, a PSRA would truly be in 4 watts in the specified months, etc. But the night facility is superior, in most ways, to the PSSA so I don't understand why they have it.

Media Hut listening log, Stardates 11/5 & 6/09 at warp speed for Ancient Modulation:

11/05 - 8:30pm 50% KFuNN 100 w DA-N and 50% KCKK, Denver 25kw DA-N pointed in our direction

10pm All KCKK, Denver and not a peep out of the KFuNNsters

11/06 - 6:30am 95% KCKK, Denver with smattering of KFuNN (100 w or PSRA) pulsating in and out

6:45am 50% KFuNN with KCKK pulsating in and out

7:00am 100% KFuNN with 22kw DA-D and KCKK down to 10kw DA-D

Even if KGA's getting close to having their new pattern in (they are a lot weaker in Boise now), they haven't even filed the 302-AM request for license. Only after the FCC grants KGA and KPIG new licenses can anyone file for a change on 1510 (or adjacent channels that now protect KGA/KPIG for that matter). Then they'll have to sort out any mutually exclusive applications.

KayFuNN 1510 had been doing so well with proper power-ups/downs
this month (following their multiple miscues during October), that I
had been pretty much ignoring them. Oops. Oh well...

Unless they really do have some new whizbang PSSA authorization
that puts a signal comparable to their 22 kw-D into the 'Tuke--and
I don't think they do--it may back to "illegal power alien" status for
KayFuNN, as today's power down was 30 minutes late, at 5:58:55 PM. ::)

The Nurse Czarina and I were about to run this through the Akbarizer 3000 computer when we realized Saturday (11/21) was KFuNN's Financial Fest at the Phoenix Convention Center. They needed that kind of pow-pow-power so the vendors who purchased booths could hear the station up until 6pm. We're sure the FCC would buy that excuse!

Oldiesfan...you've got your work cut out for you on 12/01: Local sunrise 7:30a and local sunset 5:15pm.

I don't know what "financial wizardry" KayFuNN 1510 was running
today (Sunday), but power-down was again about a half-hour late,
at 5:58:55 PM.

In fact, for about the last five minutes prior to (finally) switching,
it seemed to be nothing but PSAs being aired.

Vegas has odds that they are watching this forum now... (The KFuNN Chief was tipped off by his former partners in Vegas to this thread.) ABOUT TIME KFuNNers ;D Glad ya woke up! :'(

Apparently the CE doesn't have any pull with the GM, OM or PD, as
it was another half-hour late power down tonight (at 5:58:55 PM).

Or maybe Moe Ansari is so important, now that he has a 30 min.
PM drive infomercial on KABC Los Angeles (6-6:30 PM PT), that
KayFuNN doesn't dare drop power until his show here ends. ::)

oldiesfan....

I guess Mr. Ron Cohen can afford the fines for a late power down.
And his managers must not like their jobs.
I Sure miss the days when Sinclair Noe ran the place. :'(

Saturday power down......go ahead and guess.

If you guessed 5:58:55 PM, you're a "winner"!

Maybe Ron can find something in the KayFuNN prize closet for you.

A real neat prize would be a scale-model black 1951 Ford "Fordor"
sedan with a loop antenna on the roof and two guys in suits and
fedoras inside. ;)

I'd take that prize... ;D

At KayFuNN 1510, it's still November! (Or is that October...
or Octvember?) ;D

While yesterday's power-up was good to go, power-down
was still approx. 30 minutes late.

Today, as December rolled in everywhere except at the KFNN
digs (apparently), the 7:30 AM power-up was at...6:58:57!

And the 5:15 PM power-down? Try 5:58:59.

Since the KayFuNNsters won't come on the board and explain
why they can "flaunt" the monthly times, one has to assume
they can't...but are. Or do they have a special authorization?

Maybe the FCC commissioners are vacationing in Phoenix--miles
away from the XMTR site, of course--and absolutely must listen
to the "Before The Bell" and "Moe Ansari" shows so they can
keep track of their personal portfolios!

Has anyone seen several '51 Fords with U.S. Government plates
parked at a high-end Scottsdale resort recently? ;)

I'm starting to wonder if the time changes at every payday? ???

Word around the Buckeye Media Hut is KFuNN has hired the PR firm of Tiger Woods & Associates to handle all inquiries concerning their alleged power transgressions. Be on the lookout for a late model Escalade with a broken window and 9 iron in the back seat!

Word is that Nike will drop Tiger's endorsement contract, and change their marketing plan and re-sign Woods with the moniker "Just Screw It". Not caring about the time of day like KFuNN. ( Sorry I had to say it. :-[ )
