Kiss 105.7 is dead

I'll handicap the morning show possibilities. I think they may wait until the 10,000 songs in-a-row are done

1) Dumas (just to yank Murphy's chain)
2) Duran
3) Kraddick
4) Ace & TJ
5) Dave & Jimmy (from WNCI-Columbus)
6) Valentine

99) Bob & Sheri

547) Scholar Brad

1,016,099) Someone local and hire a staff to support them

I wonder why Bob hasn't been pimped out before. He's OBVIOUSLY the cash cow for G105....But I wonder why they haven't pushed for him to go beyond RDU...same for Murphy at Dick. Like em or not, those 2 get it done ratings and $$$ wise.

They tried syndicating Murphy back in the 90's. DUD!

It is obvious that Dumas was trying to get syndicated for a long time. The generic bits and such. If he ever lost bitboard, he'd be SCREWED!

So the second McFormat hits GSO radio in less than a month and we're supposed to feel, what...?
Empowered?
Impressed?
Excited?

Dittohead1, no one is writing about this because NOBODY CARES. The listening audience is bored to tears. Clear Channel is moving the little silver hat and silver car around on their Monopoly board. Oh boy! The Buzz! Cool! A Hit radio station!

Nothing in either format approaches anything local or relevant to people who live and work in this town and surrounding areas.

As long as radio shows contempt for its listeners by lying to them about being local and actually giving a f*** about what people really want to here, radio will continue to go this direction.

Well, people may finally be catching on.

Hey Big Dog, I hear you, but your message gets diluted by misspellings a lot of the time. Read back over this awesome post and check

Here v/s hear. Thank you for getting it done!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :D :D ;)

While I respect BDM and agree w/ most of his points, here's my take (on the Buzz): The GSO market is SOOOO lame and "under-rocked" that this processed shite sounds pretty good when compared to local (crappy) attempts.

The new hit music "training bra" station doesn't really put any lead in my pencil, but, again, the local top 40 station is so awful that they have a chance.

LOCAL ain't all it's cracked up to be. And CC does suck because they need to put Pencola on with someone decent and go "balls to the wall" after R92. As it it now, they will just put it all together with duct tape and spit and pray that bankruptcy can be held off for another 1/4

Its not a stunt.....its real according to those inside the panic walls. The target is KZL.

yep...my insider informed me of the same thing...flip was made at 5pm today staff found out 10 min before the actual switch

Hey, at least they got 10 minutes notice! Just enough time to clean out their desks while security guards watch over them so they don't steal any CC pens!!! :D

Somebody hasn't been paying attention. Nobody got caught off guard and no security this time. PD, Midday girl and Production gone since end of April. GSM and 4 salespeople gone on the first wave Inauguration Day. The only real people that they caught off guard were listeners and advertisers.

as I'm writing this..Kiss 105.7 is gone..they now sound top 40ish like g105....I don't know if they are stunting or not...audio coming soon...all the imaging is saying is "the new 105-7

Sounds like 2006 all over again... Will history repeat itself?

Feb. 2006 - WGBT 94.5 The Beat goes espanol ("94.5 El Beato")

July 2006 - CC butchers longtime country station WFMX, moving it from Statesville to Clemmons, where it re-emerges as WMKS "105.7 Kiss-FM," sounding like QMG in G'boro or Foxy 107/104 in Raleigh.

Sept. 2006 - The CC juggernaut shifts to Raleigh as (1) Sunny 93.9 abruptly dumps Madison in the Morning, and (2) 100.7 The River dumps its AAA format in favor of "classic hits" (lol).

Oct. 2006 - While CC and Entercom are duking it out in the soft-R&B war, Entercom retaliates against CC by dumping "Oldies 93" (which has since been resurrected on 93.1 HD-2) in favor of "93.1 The Wolf," targeting WTQR. Two days after The Wolf's birth, CC kills WRDU, also switching to country as "106.1 The Rooster."

Dec. 2006 - Sunny officially dies and becomes WKSL 93.9 Kiss-FM.

Flash forward to the present...

May 2009: WRDU, while retaining its country format, rebrands itself, doing away with that pesky Rooster and bringing back an updated version of its old name and logo; the station is now "106.1 RDU Country." Bobby J's White Trash Country show on WRDU also gets a new name; it's now Bobby J's Honky-Tonk Country.
Meanwhile, back in G'boro, 100.3 The Buzzard becomes 100.3 The New Buzz. Now 105.7 Kiss-FM is dead, adopting the name (sort of) and format of the "Now FM" stations that are cropping up in other cities such as New York (there, CBS Radio relegated 92.3 K-Rock to the station's HD-2 channel).

Now, for the $64,000 question: With 105.7 Kiss-FM's demise, what will become of its Raleigh namesake on 93.9?

1) Espanol
2) CHR (take the same feed as 105.7 or that feed that RVQ in Richmond takes)
3) Talk

"La Preciosa 93.9"? I just don't see CC duking it out with Curtis, who already has a Spanish station in the market on 96.9--- not to mention a powerful FM-talk signal on 101.1 that covers both the Triangle and G'boro. As for CHR, something tells me that Randi West at G105 would fight this scenario tooth and nail...

There is no way CC would put top40 on 93.9. they would NOT go after G105.

I think that Espanol would work. 96.9 has a weak signal west of Raleigh which does not cover Durham or Chapel Hill very well. 93.9 could cover this with success.

Talk formats are dying, not being introduced. this also won't happen. Not to mention 101.1 already covers both the Triad and Triangle.

If it were me, I would bring in a modern AC / AAA type format, similar to the River's old format but maybe a bit more modern rock friendly; maybe put Ace and TJ on in mornings and automate the rest of the station. It probably wouldn't do half bad, and would fill a huge gap in the market.

Remember that there aren't really a ton of workable options; with things the way they are, it's more likely 93.9 and 106.1 will just be left to sit and suffer. I'm certainly not expecting any big changes.
