Kiss 105.7 is dead

as I'm writing this..Kiss 105.7 is gone..they now sound top 40ish like g105....I don't know if they are stunting or not...audio coming soon...all the imaging is saying is "the new 105-7

Like the new format--- way better than that un-Kiss-like format they dumped WFMX for--- but the signal still sucks. Maybe if they boost the signal a bit...

I for one would love the chance to get back on the air (pt) in the market. 105.7 would be a great place for that to happen. "JJ McCain" still has recognition in the market... and it doesn't hurt that I'm a previous KZL night talent.

Haven't been on here in a really long time, but I hope everyone is doing fantastic.

It sure is amazing how much things have changed for me since my days as "JJ McCain."

105-7 has the exact same coverage area as WTQR...

WTQR has 66,000 more watts than WMKS... sure the coverage areas are similar but the in-building coverage for 105.7 must really suck.

I'm glad a station is going after Dick's KZL. Just sorry that it's a CC station. Hope they put some effort into it, which pays-off. This may cause Allen and Bruce to have to spend some of their cash. There needs to be some changes at KZL cause Murf is too old for the format.

Yeah, Kiss 105.7 is dead. But the real death occurred when CC closed down WFMX! That was a true country station, which had a big following.

Wanna bet how long the new format will be in place???

This is you 1st post, son. Looks like you have some kind of h*rd-on for Dick.

CC will f--- this up. Buh-leeeve dat

Good call ditto! There's always some certain issue that pushes someone into that first post! OR, they want to say something so bad that they create a new identity to say it. Here, I think the former is the case. ;) I also think CC will f*** this up. The Wolf pretty much proved that you gotta put some $$$ where your mouth is when introducing a new format. I think Dick will do whatever they feel they need to do to protect their property. They always have and they've always won the battle. My money's on KZL.

Duhhuh!

any word on what KZL is thinking/saying about this? I think they have a pretty steady listener group. They've been the only CHR format for a good 10 years now..in GSO...

just a little casual listening to KZL over the weekend...

they (KZL) seem to be using the word "NOW" a lot. i'm not sure how that would help them unless they can find a way to get it in their arbitron slogan listing.

Remember, in a year, it won't matter what they're saying on the air or what they're calling the station. The people meter doesn't care.

correct...Thats one part of CC's thinking with the "premium choice" formats....Call letters and positioning statements simply don't matter that much anymore when it's a coded signal being read. That's how the generic American Idol, Dancing W/Stars, Survivor etc. etc. "compelling content" will be ok.

"Call letters and positioning statements simply don't matter that much anymore when it's a coded signal being read."

Not true. You still have to create an image or brand, so they know where to come back to after they've visited. Much like a restaurant or office store would.

I do believe stations will be able to tone down the constant "spam", in the form of meaningless liners, that don't connect with listeners in any way.

BUt there IS no image or brand anymore. You listen toa top 40 CC station...it's the same as goin to Chili's or Applebee's. And CC doesn't care one bit as long as their costs are low. You think they're out hittin the streets doin sticker hits and school stops liek the old days?? Hard to do when the statuion is piped in

Every point of contact builds the brand and image, but if there's always only one-way communication, after a while the brand is tarnished, it becomes irrelevant, and people find it useless. Even God takes input from his listeners.

the HD 2 is still urban oldies.......they also havent changed the processing...now with them playing top 40 the audio sounds a bit dull...and underprocessed..which is fine for urban AC....

hope they don't change that... especially the 2-for-tuesday. they've never announced that, but they do it and it's great.

why is that ok for urban AC?

and why would KZL push the word "now" so much? is it just to confuse the audience? or is there an underlying reason i don't get?

The way WKZL is using the word "now" is a programming tactic. When a new station goes up against an established station, the established station has the higher cume (people tuning in for at least 5 minutes). The established station can prevent the new station from claiming any slogans, etc., simply by using them themselves. That way many, many listeners will think they did it first and will associate the slogan with the established station. It makes the new station look like they're copying the established station. And, believe me, listeners don't pay nearly the attention to what's going on that we do. The Dick Programming people have ALL the power right now and they know what to do to block this station. AND, they'll do it. Just watch. That's the value of experience. I learned of this tactic many, many years ago from a major programming consultant.
