That’s a sweet board
Lose Yourself has been an alt staple since 8 Mile came out.
Hehehe I wanna hear this for myself. Reminiscent of the cheeky skits KVIL ran while Allers programmed it.They just did a bit between songs, about cleaning and “Cloroxing” a intern.
I hope someone’s recording these. Lol
Eminem charted 4 times and his label was still sending him to Alt as late as 2008. He's not exactly an Alt legend but there was a period of time where he was conceivable to spin on the format.Lose Yourself has been an alt staple since 8 Mile came out. I remember very well when alts played it as a current.
Always a good day for the TV crew when they don't have to leave the building to do the story.
KPIX piece about the launch, with studio shots.

Glad I wasn't the only one to spot that nuance.Always a good day for the TV crew when they don't have to leave the building to do the story.
A station like this doesn't have to be a stellar performer on its own, but needs to deliver something complementary to the rest of the cluster from a demographic and sales perspective. Clearly, Dave wasn't cutting it.I think this was a smart move. I wouldn’t be holding my breath for good ratings, considering KITS’ performance in the decade (or more?) prior to its demise, but it was a smart decision considering how Dave was performing. There’s really nothing else that could have been done with 105.3. If it doesn’t do that well, Audacy will probably stick with it unless the billing is abysmal because there aren’t really any other good options.
They could use it to compliment KGMZ, although KGMZ is one of Audacy’s weakest sports stations. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to promote it on 95.7 if they aren’t already.A station like this doesn't have to be a stellar performer on its own, but needs to deliver something complementary to the rest of the cluster from a demographic and sales perspective. LOL - "if they aren't already". Just a reflection on how much this board of radio geeks listens to The Game. They could use it to compliment KGMZ, although KGMZ is one of Audacy’s weakest sports stations. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to promote it on 95.7 if they aren’t already.
KGMZ isn’t in a good place, they’re a partnered station to local teams and still destroyed by a very weak signal (KNBR-FM)They could use it to compliment KGMZ, although KGMZ is one of Audacy’s weakest sports stations. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to promote it on 95.7 if they aren’t already.
KNBR-FM and KGMZ have nearly identical footprints, both are non-grandfathered class B’s. One on Mt. Sutro and the other on San Bruno Mtn. Plus, KNBR has a powerful AM that reaches places neither FM reach.KGMZ isn’t in a good place, they’re a partnered station to local teams and still destroyed by a very weak signal (KNBR-FM)
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if in the next 5 years they sell KGMZ and KRBQ to another operator. I doubt they wanna exit the marker, but they have a lot of properties here and they’re struggling to catch on. Probably financially not too much of an incentive if KITS can succeed and they still have 97.3 and 106.9.
I’m sure Hubbard, Cumulus, Alpha or another operator would hop in for the right price, especially if other stations are willing to sell. I feel like our market is volatile, but in a better economic time period we might see some trading or sales, not just Audacy.
What people not in the Bay Area sometimes don't realize is that it's not a sports-mad market. Yes, there are sports fans, of course. But the intensity and breadth of interest that you find in some other metro areas isn't nearly as present in the Bay Area. By way of comparison, the Kansas City metro essentially shuts down for each Chiefs game. That doesn't happen for 49ers games. As long as you stay away from Santa Clara, your life goes on undisturbed. So, while there may be an audience for sports-talk stations, it's not going to have nearly the share of the overall listening audience that it would have in a market where interest in sports is more widespread.KGMZ isn’t in a good place, they’re a partnered station to local teams and still destroyed by a very weak signal (KNBR-FM)
