KMET is back !!??????

Heads up OC Radio Geek:

They seemed to indicate that there was a "surprise" later that they are not supposed to talk about. Ace seemed to let something slip after 8:00 am and Gonzer told him he can't even talk about the "surprise" even referred to as a surprise.

Could it be an extra airshift at 8:00pm by someone that they cannot advertise?

Do keep the tape or whatever recording device you have going just in case. Don't want to miss anything.

Oh yes, I heard that! I am planning to record everything today. So, no worries!!

KMET (Hazy...) recollections:

They used to name the weekdays at KMET, and DJs would use these phrases throughout the day, but I am forgetting now what Monday was called...I got the rest down:

Monday - (Hazy memory fades on this one)
Tuesday - "Titillating Tuesday"
Wednesday - "Hump Day Wednesday"
Thursday - "Champagne Thursday"
Friday - "Finally a Friday"

OK, with a little help from Rick Scarry, we now have the answer for Monday - Monday was "Whooya Monday"

I don't feel bad for not being able to remember, Gonzer himself was stumped on Monday too but got the others as I had listed above.

I know everyone was hanging on the edge of their seats for that all-important update, so there you go.

With a whooya to ya.

Kyle...Will you be posting the link somewhere for folks to stream?
I will be a concert this evening (Long Beach Municipal Band in the park performing the music of 1924-1937: Roaring Twenties: Ragtime, Dixieland jazz, George Gershwin), so will sadly not be able to catch the Dr. Demento segment.

David, Kyle is "OCradiodude"; But in any case I'm recording the day from 10 am - 9 pm (?) so I got yer back. I'm recording it on my home computer, and assuming Mrs SRF does nothing to jeopardize that recoding ( ;) I can put what you need on a CD. [she's at work now and I put a sign by the keyboard to alert her] Though OC Radio Geek can be the back up. HOOO-Yah!!

I'm not Kyle, but I guess I can do that.....

I was just wondering are there any legal issues preventing them from playing snips/air checks of KMET with Jim Ladd, Cynthia Fox et al [ppl who currently work for KLOS] ?

I don't think so, they just played a clip from Jim Ladd when John Lennon was shot.

Right and I just heard a real classic clip of Jim Ladd on KMET ragging on ABC-owned KLOS for their "theft" of the 'RockTober' event. Hilarious! Gonzer broke in and pointed out that ABC no longer owns them but they're STILL KLOS!!

They couldn't play any clips of those personalities from their work for KLOS, but old KMET airchecks are fair game. KLOS used old KMET airchecks over the last weekend.

Current Citadel and previous ABC, CapCities/ABC, and Disney, all are similar in their business practices in this regard.

It's a very good gesture on Bonneville's part to honor a highly respected L.A. radio station from the past.

Unfortunately, they could bring KMET back and it would probably only do a bit better than KSWD does now.

Remember, KMET was under a 2.0 share when it went away in 1987.

The only criticism I have is that the first decade of KMET seems to be forgotten except for a couple of clips of BMR. It seems to be a remembrance of the MET of the Sam Bellamy era. The early years 1968-75 are almost completely forgotten.

Agreed, and that is sorely missed because the Bellamy era couldn't have happend without the groundwork that was laid by those that came before them. However, the job that they are doing from the period of '76 through the end on Valentines day 2007 is very good. Even better than I expected.

One of the things I've been most happy with are the clips of Mary "The Burner" Turner. I would have liked to hear some Raechel Donahue clips as well as Shadoe Stevens.

The funniest thing about all of this is even though The Sound is KMET for a day, they still easily showed how KLOS has been and always will be considered "tools" with their corporate decision to gag Ladd, Fox, Coburn and Westwood.

Free the KMET 4 indeed!

I am hoping that they bring back the KMET music and personality to KSWD! Maybe this show is a precursor to what's coming.....

A 2.0 share for KSWD would be a nice improvement for them!!!!!!
