Dr. D is down to a scant 7 stations nationally and lost barter agreements so the Good Doctor is keeping most of everything afloat from his own pocket but still does what he loves, all the while not having his biggest loyal fan base able to hear him in Los Angeles. The Funny 5 is only done ONCE A MONTH now!

If Dr. D were given even just 2 hours every Sunday on The Sound, I'd be there rolling tape just like I did when I was 13. Dr. D IS Los Angeles, the land of fruits and nuts. I refuse to accept that Dr. D's time has passed on the radio waves. Everyone needs a bit of nonsense and laughter. It's cathartic.

With a nearly 4 hour Bruce Springsteen concert over, Finally a KMET Friday is now over. Great job all.

Super big thumbs up to the Sound. They have come in for their share of criticism from me and others in this space over the last year, but they hit this one out of the park. This is a radio day I will remember forever. Decades from now, I'll remember the day they "Brought KMET back". When radio has an event that you will remember that long, that is radio at its best.

LOL, I don't think the "Free the KMET 4" Mantra meant to free them of gainful employment.

As a side note, Jim Ladd mentioned nothing of today on his shift. They really are bound and gagged at Citadel! A buddy of mine proudly wearing his TEMK tee-shirt got through to the request line (requested an obscure Styx song whose title escapes me--- it wasn't played) and asked for the release of the KMET 4. He asked if Jim would respond to the KMET reunion going on without him and the response was... "Tune in Monday, to hear what he says" :

It's sad that Ladd has become the corporate tool he once despised. At least he's getting paid. A little piece of me died inside just now typing that.

We know what the deal was for the KMET 4. The big mystery is where was Paraquat? He was in so many of the classic tapes one almost had the illusion that he was there. Except he wasn't. He was heavily promoted, but his absence was hardly addressed.

We are left with a little intrigue. I do hope everything is alright.

Since everything is so corporate and all about the money, most stations don't have much talent.

I would have to question how doing late 70's/early 80's personality rock would work in nearly 2010 in a PPM world.

A lot of that stuff worked in the diary. Not to mention the fact most of the KMET audience is now out of the 25-54 demo.

Part of the challenge KSWD and KLOS have now is that most of their audience is over 45.

JACK has really become the Classic Rock station for Los Angeles. It plays a good variety of rock hits popularized by KROQ, KLOS, and KMET. KROQ was the biggest station for the 80's decade, which is why they do so well 35-44.

KLOS drops considerably after 10am and generally ranks outside the top 15 in demo in the music dayparts.

I just really question the viability of AOR radio in PPM - it would likely be a very tough sell and wouldn't deliver enough 25-44 to be successful.

Ryan Seacrest, Mark & Brian, Kevin & Bean, Bill Handel, Gary Bryan, Big Boy, Piolin, Don Cheto, Omar and Argelia, Jaime & Ricardo, Shawn Parr, the new morning show with Kennedy on KYSR, Brian McKnight... all have talent and do what is appropriate within their formats... and I suspect all are nicely compensated.

El Mandril - who does afternoons on KLAX usually has one of the if not the #1 ranked show in Los Angeles.

As a matter of fact, listening in mornings tends to be 3rd to middays and PM drive in a lot of PPM markets.

The days of winning the morning show and taking the whole day may well be over.

El Mandril drives a lot of the success of KLAX.

And Glenn has said before that he thinks Classic Rock could be in trouble in L.A. There may be something to that as well - especially as the audience ages well over 50. IMHO, JACK is Classic Rock for L.A. - because of the KROQ influence in this market during the 80's and the 80's audience (35-44) is now the center of the money demo.
