KOAI-FM

Thank you!!!!!!!! They can at least listen to the smooth jazz format on HD radio now, that way they won't complain

"Movin" will make progress in the ratings for fall, and do well in winter. Study the spring book however, thats when one will know if it fails ,or succeeds. I still say it was a dumb move and will tumble as Jack Did.
Borrowing a line: "CBS = Can't Broadcast Sensibly".

You think CBS would "ever" admit they made a mistake and bring back The Oasis?

Very unlikely they will ever consider a mistake taking a station that was not even top 15 25-54 and putting on a format that will do better in that demo. KOAI was in deep revenue trouble due to steadily declining ratings in the sales demos.

Jay;Ignore the master of the grand illusion He knows not what he speaks ,only his ego expelling gas.. CBS won't admit a mistake like the Master of grand Illusion. Admitting a mistake would cause their stock to stumble again and their board would not like that. Whoever had done their research apparently has one ear ,one eye and is near sighted, The Oasis was very popular in business offices, other work places, etc, plus the commute home. The research they used was narrow minded , and narrow in scope, and narrow. The oasis had leadership problems,so rather than take a look at that and fix it,dump the format. The Master of Grand Illusion would do that, and PT Barnum would applaud.

How can you grow a crummy format?

BRING BACK THE OASIS !!
I dont think its crummy, but you just have to hope its done right. Yeah it sounds like a Jammin Oldies, but at least there are some currents. I want the Oasis back, but I hope its on a better signal.

I think I would have died and gone to Heaven if they brought back The Oasis.

I personally never had a problem with their signal.
Although my radio no longer picks up 107.5 ;D

1. KOAI needed little addtional research to know KOAI was not the future for 107.5. The billing was flat (actually down adjusted for inflation), while the market was up. The 55+ component of the station was 17% in Spring of 1998 and was nearly 50% in Spring of this year, with 35-44 taking a huge hit, and 45-54 down also. They could see the station was 17th to 20th in 25-54, out of the sales demos.

2. CBS derives about 12% of its revenues from radio, or about $1.5 billion. KOAI billed about $12 million in 2005, so any change in billings on 107.5 in Dallas will have zero effect on CBS, its stock price or investor perception.

3. A format with a lower 12+ but better 25-54 will make them more money. Any research they did no doubt proved that a format like Movin' would have a much better opportunity to affect billing in a positive way than the old format.

OldGringo,

Since you have access to real numbers, do you see the KOAI situation as a trend across the nation for this format regarding CBS?

There are a bunch of variables. First, billing. They are noly left with Detroit, LA and Houston. Detroit has nearly a 5 share, good billings and a decent 25-54. LA is one of the top 10 or 12 billing stations in the US. Houston is a moderate performer; KLOL was billing more when they went Hurban.

In the air: Houston. Not likely; LA and Detroit.

Of course, this is like the football pool. I am only guessing.

Your obsession is growing old. Isn't there anything with the actual subject that you'd like to discuss? Was OldGringo's post on the mark, was it off....?? Hellooooooooooo!

Unless you are a CBS Radio manager, you don't know what their thought process was and is, precisely. However, we have enough data on sales, ratings, ad buys, etc., to know that of the three remaining CBS Smooth Jazz stations, only one is a low performer relative to its market. So, we can make educated guesses based on what we know.

They are still guesses. Yours, mine, or the next person's.

All I can say as a listener is that I'd MUCH rather have The Oasis format than another hip-hop, rap-crap, disco station which 107.5 turned in to..............we have enough of that junk ALL over the airwaves.

Movin's premise is that it is not playing hip hop and rap... it is a rhythmic adult CHR. Very female friendly, particularly for second generation Hispanic fimales.

Your definition and mine differ, on which there is no problem. There is definitely some pop stuff that is hip-hop or rap in flavor, but it is true crossover material (like Usher or Shakira & Wycleff). The fact is that it Movin' a female targeted format, without the edgy stuff on the hip hop or the rock sides.

Well, what do you think of his analysis of the 3 remaining CBS smooth jazz stations (L.A., Detroit, Houston)?

Very true Old Gringo. So next time (again) you "Guess" please don't pass it off as Dogma or the absolute truth as you frequently do.
