I just don't get it! Summer book is out today and the Oasis beat The Ticket, The Edge, Mix, JACK, KVIL... I could go on & on. Someone is bound to want a 3.0 share... That's what Oasis pulled in the summer book which is better than most. Perhaps CC will pick up the Smooth Jazz format like they just did in Philly. The PD surely must see that KZPS and KEGL are sucking and Smooth Jazz would pump up their cluster but what do I know. ???

Yeah how dare those ad agencies and corp real estate agents overlook the ones with more cash,buy more expensive items,newer cars,houses,etc. Yeah how dare they be so limited in vison and broad in ignorance? That's todays radio, the quick buck,rather than the long term stable investment.

I am not going to spin anything. Neither a station nor an agency defines the age target of an agecy client. The client's marketing department does that.

If the client says "Women 25-44" and a station is 55+, no matter how many sales presentations the station makes to the agency, they will never get a buy as they do not meet the demo specified by the client.

And, again, the biggest objection to using radio for 55+ is that the ROI is often negative. It makes no fiscal sense if you spend more on advertising to make the sale than the profit from the sale.

Especially in smaller markets agencies can and will at times buy a station even if their product isn't in the right demo. Sometimes good sales people with established relationships with clients and agencies will depart from the norm.

Actually I think the Laffer is right here.
Of course, the problem is that were talking Dallas which isn't exactly a 'smaller market'.

All depends on what you're looking at.
I know a bunch of people don't take anything that Gringo guy says, but he's right about at least one thing. Most advertisers buy adults 25-54, not Persons 12+.
And 12+ you're right, The Oasis beat The Ticket, Live 105, ESPN, KRLD, KZPS, Jack, Bone, Mix, KVIL, plus all the also-rans...But 25-54 they're not even top 10...

Only at little agencies in small markets can the agency act as "ad manager" for the client rather than ad agency for the client. I spoke with a GM in Dallas and he can not remember when a station has been bought out of demo.

What happens is a bit diffeent, but could be confusing for those not in agency sales. An agency buys 25-44. Your station is mostly 45+. But you have some under-45 listening. So you take that part, and price it competitively, and get on a buy for the smaller under-45 listeners you do have. In other words, the station might get $750 a spot for a 45-54 buy, but the under-45 is not strong, so they might get $200. It depends how badly the station needs the business.

Who knows but KLNO actually had better numbers a couple of years ago when KEGL went spanish. I may be wrong but wasn't KLNO in the 4's when KEGL had a 5+ share 12+ and soaring 25-54's.

In the second week of January, 2006, KLNO adopted the original Mexican adult hits format from KRCD in LA. KEGL, from second in the market, is now 19th. KLNO is 6th, and 4th 25-54. KEGL has lost over 65% of its audience share.

I must have been thinking earlier for KLNO, because several years ago i thought they were getting big numbers.

Both KESS and KLNO, prior to the September, 2005, launch of KEGL, were at higher levels. In Summer, 2005 KESS was a 4.5and KLNO was a 3.6. KEGL came in and did a major fragging for a couple of months until KLNO changed format in January, 2006 and made KEGL collapese.

Threre are now 3 more Spanish FMs than summertime, 2005, so the overall shares are more fragmented. KESS adn KLNO had 8 shares in 2005, and have 7 shares now... although the 25-54 on KLNO is quite a bit better than it was in pre-KEGL days.
