Like Philly, where the Spanish-language format on WUBA 104.5 was replaced with an alternative one, I imagine some sort of more PPM-friendly format will appear.

The tropical format in Philly was a mistage from the offset. Philly is less than 5% Hispanic, of which less than a third is Spanish dominant. There was no way for it to get much more than a 1 share consistently. On the other hand, Dallas is roughly a quarter Hispanic of which 60% is Spanish dominant and another 20% is bilingual, meaning there are probably 20 or so shares for Spanish language stations.

They're not playing spanish at all right now. But the web link doesnt show the live feed of 97.1 La Flabibla is a network. But right now Im hearing Christmas. Im puttin up a recording on youtube later :)

If we're just all going to sit here and "speculate" as to what the format change will be, I'll give you my "two cents" while I'm here.

If it's going to be a format that "nobody likes anyway," how does CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC sound to you?

It's just a guess!

I'd vote for that - it would be better than that crap that is called "country" that is on the other stations now.

I was listening to the "format" this morning in the car, they're actually spinning some decent xmas music I like...Hopefully they'll flip it to something decent that'll bring people in...

I can confirm that it's gone all christmas as off at least noon today. :)

I hate to say I'm glad, but I am. It proves we have too many spanish language formats in this market. I'll be happy to hear pretty much anything in english there.

Of course pretty soon we'll have too many Christmas stations :p We're up to what, three already?

Jazz or Oldies. Rumor has it they are talking to some folks who have worked with the Oasis on the business side. So I would think it would lean toward Jazz though JD Freeman has a programming background in MOR sp it could be a form of MOR to take ratings from KLUV and Jack.

This will either be a form of classic hits, or it will be smooth jazz. Anything else would shock me.

SUNNY 97 was classic hits.....are they going to admit that they screwed that up by attempting the same thing again?

Maybe it's back to the Good Ol' days and we will have an AOR after all in Dallas? However, if it's another CHR, I will climb that tower like King Kong and get planes to shoot it down. :p

That I want to see.. Personally I liked taking the elevator...(1st one to stand on the top plate of the tower, too).

Besides, do you even know which tower it is (you got a lot of choices down there...better make sure its the right one ;)

Actually, I know what format will go on 97.1, cuz I bought the station! ;D

BASS-FM.... PLAYING WHAT I WANT!!!!!!!!

OK OK, not really..... ;)

My guess is it'll be an oldies format. Hello, KLUV......?

Of course I'm sure the CONsultants will tell me "NO WAY"....

R

You may be correct Robert. I've heard some interesting tidbits recently including 97.1 will go to a R&B/Oldies much like the Jammin' oldies a few years back. Exceprt Joel Salcowitz will not be back to program it with the usual 250 song list.

10% 60s, 50%, 70s, 40%, 80s R&B, Dance, Free Style, Pop Rhythmic

Twas the week before Christmas ...

Amidst the lovely debate about format flipping, just wanted you to know this impressive scribing did not go unnoticed. Nicely done. ;)

Not with PPM coming...

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned FM Talk (with the implication of "Guy Talk") as a possible format. That ain't going to happen, but what about FM News/Talk like what Clear Channel has done with WPGB in Pittsburgh?

Does anyone have an idea when the contracts for Limbaugh, Beck, and C2C expire? WBAP billings are great but sure does feel like your Dad's radio station when compared to something more aggressive like KFI.

Maybe they can bring in Dan Potter. Any other good local talent on the market?
