Majic 94.1 no more????

So I am hearing 2 different stories ....... WTHZ Majic 94.1 has been sold OR Majic 94.1 ischanging the format to Christian ...... anybody have anymore info? Calls to station employees were made today from what I understand.

Well, it's been a long time coming, but it was inevitable. Don't know your sources, but will be interesting to see if this is for real. Information anyone?

Yup! It's sad but true. Bunch of folks are going to be out of a job, including Max McGann, Shark, maybe Steve Finnegan, and several salespeople, traffic manager and more. I heard even the GM, Tom Collins is out. K-Love will bring in their own people to run it. Don't think Gig's sold it, though. Think it's an LMA.

I've told you for months there was going to be a format change at the station. It appears that EMF has an LMA with the Hilton's for the time being and that Gig will continue to attempt to build his tower in Rowan County. It appears the morning guy is out along with the sales team and most everybody else including Tom Collins. EMF will operate the station via satellite with little or no local employees. Gig and his daughter will run the AM station but from what I hear there is very little billing and wonder how long they will hold on to that?

Interesting that Gig Hilton was quoted with the following in the Lexington paper just 9 days ago, on Friday March 5:

The new tower is important because there is a void in the Charlotte market for the “modern oldies” format of 94.1, which plays music from the 1960s to the 1980s, Hilton said. A station in Charlotte with a similar format changed its offerings several years ago, and that’s the audience Hilton wants to capture.

The rest of this "tower" article is here:

Yea, right. Don't get too too excited over this latest stunt. They'll be back with the oldies you love tomorrow, gullible gus and gals.

Puh-lease. As if!

There's reality and then there is reality. If you are pushing for local zoning, loans, etc. you want to appeal to who you are pitching to and what age group they are. His push of the oldies format is clear at that point. Instead of holding on to a losing financial situation (even though the oldies format could work long term) a fresh start when the 'magical' tower gets built might be a good enough strategy. Getting rid of any commitments now while getting a little doh from K Love might provide holding power.

Then of course this could all be a mirage.

This is what happens when you put "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" and "Chick-A-Boom" in regular rotation! Seriously, I'm not surprised.

Guess we'll be seeing more "sharks" on the beach! ;)

We'll, at least it's an "English" speaking Christian station!

And now, back to the ol' iPod! :D

Let's hope Curtis Media fires up WCOG soon and simulcasts the "Channel 85" programming they're building in Raleigh. The Triad NEEDS an oldies station of some form or fashion.

I just wish they hadn't brought in Max McGann only to throw him out of this market again. That isn't a very "Christian" way to do people, is it?

Later . . . .

It's now after 10pm -- why is the "Majic 94.1" stream still active, just as if "Majic" is still on the air?
By the way, does anyone know when the flip ocurred today?

Per yes.com, they played a lot of Beatles songs, and played American Pie at 11:56. Dead air? followed until 4:04PM, when CCM started.

Since it's a LMA, they probably are still operating the automation, etc out of their studios like business as usual, however the K-Love feed is being fed to the transmitter opposed to the classic hits.

Max McGann is reported on his Facebook page that he was called at 3:30 PM on Sunday Afternoon and told that the station was being sold and that all the staff is now fired! Wow! A CHRISTIAN radio station is treating people like this??? The staff and loyal listeners of Majic 94.1 deserved MUCH better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right after the Duke-Ga. Tech game. Sometime between 4 and 5 pm

Why does everyone keep saying 94.1 is a Christian radio station?

Probably nothing was said, but I am CURIOUS as to whether anything about "Majic" may have been said on sister AM 1440 WLXN -- if they take any phone callers, a disgruntled or inquiring listener surely would have called. I think they do have a live morning show.
