Majic 94.1 no more????

LMAs could in theory continue as long as they want to. It's highly possible that EMF may get the funds together to purchase WTHZ outright - even without a tx move it'd gain good coverage for them - they've got the 50kw out in the middle of Caswell County that puts a listenable signal into the eastern Triad and the western Triangle, they've added repeaters in the poor reception areas. Even if the station that presently operates on 94.1 FM with call letters WTHZ doesn't get its move EMF can always apply for and likely get repeaters in the Charlotte area to improve coverage there.

The deal is already struck with an LMA. The price has been established and terms are laid out with dates and other particulars. If for some reason EMF does not make the monthly payments or defaults on the agreement the station would go back to the Hilton's. Getting the tower then withdrawing the LMA is not an option but do think there could be some other deals in the works with regards to the tower. If it is built in a period of time EMF will pay more, if the tower is not built then EMG pays XXX, and during this period of time EMF continues to pay each month the negotiated fee.

If I remember correctly, EMF worked out a similar deal in 2000 when they bought the former WPXX 106.7, then a 6,000-watt station operating in Danville with a CP to go 50,000 watts from the Caswell County site they now operate from as WKVK. That price was contingent on the upgrade and they LMAed 106.7 for a while before it was purchased outright.

To any of the Majic 94.1 people who might read this, THANK YOU for giving it a good shot! You and the music will be missed for sure. It was fun hearing my old co-worker Mark the Shark McGuffin on there too. Majic had some good talent for sure.

Format changes, ownership changes, long hours, mediocre pay, no benefits and long periods between gigs. That is the reality of radio today. All those problems today are the reasons I walked out on radio when Charlotte's Magic 96.1 flipped to "The Beat." Seems I wasn't important enough to get fired so I showed up for one last shift babysitting the rap music automation, wrote my resignation, emailed it to whoever was in charge of programming that week, went out front to the park bench in front of 801 E. Morehead and smoked a big fat expensive cigar. That was a great way to end a 36 year career.

Good luck to all of the Majic people on the beach just in time for Spring Break 2010!
Party DOWN!

Some of you are missing the point on the use of the term "lease". WTHZ was "leased" to EMF so they could start operating the radio station immediately instead of having to wait for a closing. It also gives the Hiltons more time to try and build that tower in Rowan County which gives them a city grade signal over Charlotte and a much bigger pay check from EMF. EMF is airing their format through a satellite delivered format that has no staff and sells no commercials.

Just thinking out loud, since I claim little knowledge of LMAs -- is it possible the Hiltons have already come up with a selling price and EMF is already aware of it and the final sale is contingent upon the tower move? Or, could K-Love potentially be temporary; the Hiltons are finally sucessful in moving the tower; the Hiltons slap a price tag on 94.1 and if EMF thinks it's too high then someone else buys? Also -- and this question could be redundant -- is the LMA (lease) open-ended or is it a 1-year, 2-year, etc agreement? Also, can an LMA continue indefinitely?
If you look at The Charlotte Observer, http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/03/20/1324884/boomers-who-love-oldies-radio.html, Gig Hilton is saying he can get out of the agreement if he wants. He all but says if he gets the tower and an improved Charlotte signal, oldies will come back.

Yea, right. Don't get too too excited over this latest stunt. They'll be back with the oldies you love tomorrow, gullible gus and gals.

Puh-lease. As if!

Best stunt EVER! GOING ON 2 WEEKS AND THEY CHANGED CALL LETTERS! MAN, THEY SURE REELED ME IN!

It is amazing how far these radio stations will go to fool the public! :D
I bet this was all Tom Collins idea.

What happened? Did they do the reveal yet?? ?????????? I havbe not been in to hear what is on
there but it doesn't surprise me that they waited so long so the surprise was a bigger surprise.

All Ii can say is BOO YA! I've never been wrong. Bow down at your earliest convienient.

Now, the question is, is Pat Patterson waiting somewhere in the wangs????????

I paid my water bill and heard country music. I didn't ask the woman why she switched.

Now, when should I go back to that restaurant? You know, they should have never quit airing the hometown station.

I haven't gone back to that restaurant because the price of gas was going up and I had to remember to get gas before it did. Now it's back down and if it stays down I need more gas. Maybe next week. But I'll bet they'll be airing the local oldies station.

I know the two don't seem related but if I go to the restaurant I won't remember to get gas. They're not in the same neighborhood.

Happy 3rd Birthday WTHZ? THAT had to be Tom Collins' final act. Gig isn't smart enough to come up with a posthumous Birthday Greeting. Tom and Royal Crown wrote that one afternoon, but the big gold TC hangin' around his neck probably cut off the circulation enough that he "saw" it in the alcohol-induced semi-coma that he wrote it in. I personally told Gig that the employees at the station would be waitin' for the other shoe to drop the moment his mother bit the dust. Voila! The other shoe dropped on TC's head! :D

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Old has-been drinking in the dark. Hard to shed a tear, isn't it?

I had to buy a new mower. And I need gas. Both mean I'm too far away from the restaurant at lunchtime. The earliest I can go is next week. But I will ask why they weren't loyal to the hometown station.

I may go to the bank soon. K-104.7 will probably be on there.
