Majic 94.1 no more????

I didn't listen to WLXN today (rarely do) but their a.m. show really doesn't take calls as a matter of routine. Just a guess but I would think the average WLXN listener is a good bit older than even an Oldies-FM listener. Except for their morning show and still some local sports, it's all syndicated stuff [which I guess describes a lot of stations :) ]

Max McGann is reported on his Facebook page that he was called at 3:30 PM on Sunday Afternoon and told that the station was being sold and that all the staff is now fired! Wow! A CHRISTIAN radio station is treating people like this??? The staff and loyal listeners of Majic 94.1 deserved MUCH better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EMF didn't fire anyone. EMF doesn't even own this station yet. Any firing would have been done by Hilton. Go complain to him.

Why don't you take a deep breath before you start throwing stones about things you do not know.

I had to check my Facebook Page to see if I really said everyone was fired ... believe all it says is I could sleep past 3:30 am for awhile ... (which I did this morning) ,,, Max

My bank will have to go back to K-104.7, the place where I pay my water bill was either there or Lite 102.9. I imagine The Goody Shop restaurant will be back on the local oldies station, which they never should have left.

The only thing that surprises me is that the rumors said this station would air WMIT's programming.

Look for Simon to make a change to the kind of "oldies" Majic was playing. They've been moving in that direction, but the metal, rap (if any) and "music" from after 1990 or so needs to go. I do hope the "We play everything" guy gets to stay around.

Otherwise WCOG is being purchased by Curtis, who put "real oldies" on WKIX.

Say what you want about the programming at 94.1, but it's sad to see alot of good people in that building (minus one obvious exclusion) out of a job.

Yea, right. Don't get too too excited over this latest stunt. They'll be back with the oldies you love tomorrow, gullible gus and gals.

Puh-lease. As if!

Greatest stunt ever, as they're still "stunting" 24 hours later. You've never been more "spot-on", Sniff

Looks like Gig can ride out the economy with this move, then concentrate on his tower move to Rowan county. About the time this LMA is done, he can sell the station as a Charlotte station. Considering his IQ level, I think this was a smarter move than I would have expected. Just terrible about the many employees that had to be let go. I'm sure Gig considers them "collateral damage". After all, it's just business. Right? Watch out for the Karma, Gig. (if you know what that means)

All replaced by a dish, server and a feed from McChristian Radio headquarters in California. It all exemplifies what is wrong with radio today. Frankly, I always hate to hear when EMF absorbs yet another formerly local radio station. Now it's zombie radio. Very sad.

The biggest news story so far in Greensboro radio-land this year and no word from Ape? Ape, where are you? :D

Many "local" owners are lousy broadcasters. I'm not saying that's the case here, but local doesn't necessarily make it good. Some local owners just don't have the skills and knowledge to be successful.

Whoa! Someone on these boards who gets it. Nicely said.

Can someone explain why the "Majic" website and stream are still active? Streaming ain't cheap -- or is it in some cases, I don't know. While I've not listened at length since this morning, the stream still "blocks" the commercial breaks that would normally be heard over-the-air. Therefore, no "on air" ads are paying for the stream. Has the stream been intentionally left up and are they trying it as an internet-only station? Or, has someone simply forgotten about it. I guess some of my thoughts and questions sound dumb, but it's like the website didn't get the memo that this station no longer exists.

Maybe the website is in denial ;D

a year ago max got the job, i didn't, Thank You Lord!
Good Luck pal.

I thought the announcemnt in Inside Radio was a crock! It stated some of the air staff will lose their jobs and other will be chaning duties. What a crock! The morning man was let go from the air staff but the sales department, production department, promotion department, and traffic department were released along with the General Manager. The only person not getting the ax on the FM staff was Stacy Hilton. The midday guy also did morning news on their AM station and it appears he will remain. I have heard this was handled very poorly.

I guess I am missing something. Why would ownership turn to religious programming and then try to move to Charlotte? Charlotte already has multiple religious stations on both AM and FM, including a couple of FM's that are playing the exact same type of music? (91.9 & 106.9). If 94.1 is to stay religious, you would think the Triad area would be a better area to stay in.

Some of you are missing the point on the use of the term "lease". WTHZ was "leased" to EMF so they could start operating the radio station immediately instead of having to wait for a closing. It also gives the Hiltons more time to try and build that tower in Rowan County which gives them a city grade signal over Charlotte and a much bigger pay check from EMF. EMF is airing their format through a satellite delivered format that has no staff and sells no commercials.

Just thinking out loud, since I claim little knowledge of LMAs -- is it possible the Hiltons have already come up with a selling price and EMF is already aware of it and the final sale is contingent upon the tower move? Or, could K-Love potentially be temporary; the Hiltons are finally sucessful in moving the tower; the Hiltons slap a price tag on 94.1 and if EMF thinks it's too high then someone else buys? Also -- and this question could be redundant -- is the LMA (lease) open-ended or is it a 1-year, 2-year, etc agreement? Also, can an LMA continue indefinitely?
