Major LA Radio Station Flipping Format???

Well its friday and no word of a format flip yet. I'm very doubtful that anything is going to happen.
Who said the flip would be on Friday?

Usually some sort of stunting would happen on Friday. I think this thread is just false...

Technically, no, Don Barrett DID tweet that he heard a "buzz". Then again, this is the same guy who said his internet site was going out of business twice! I just don't get how a station is "mum" though?

Maybe cold feet or "they just weren't ready yet?" ;)

Remember the big stir-up at 103.1 back in the summer of 2008 that Indie was going to flip that summer, however, they held it off until January 2009? Maybe the buzz of a station flip is in the biz but are holding off a bit on the call?

I do agree that there are a few stations that look like a mess right now. But do you really think Saul is going to let go the country format (especially the GO Country brand) on KKGO? Yes, the station's seen better days but I really only feel that he would only flip if he can't keep the lights on.

I am in the mood for a good format flip. I shall vote for 96.3 to go Rhythmic AC, similar to WKTU (NY). It will be English language but target primarily Latin women, 25-49. KXOL may not be "major," as far as ratings go, but the signal is.

KLOS....hmmmmm: Major LA Radio Station Flipping Format???

Here's a thought I have not seen brought up in this thread so far....Don mentioned that it is a major station, couple that with all the chatter about KABC, and Bob Moore's promise of more surprises in store, together with the thread about KFI-FM, perhaps the major LA radio station flip in the works is KLOS becoming KABC-FM...

Were that to happen, it would fortify KSWD's hold on the classic rock / AOR audience, which would continue to be served. I could even see 95.5 continuing to serve up programs like the excellent Breakfast with the Beatles on Sunday mornings, similar to how 97.1 operated in its first few years as an FM talk station where they had some music programming on the weekends, but were full-on talk during the week.

Just an idea....

There's one more set of stations that no one else has mentioned...at least not this time around.

KFSH moving to 99.5 and KKLA moving to 95.9 OR KRLA moving to 99.5 and KKLA moving to 870AM.
In the latter scenario KRLA would then be the first talk station on FM in Los Angeles. They could use more billing.
In the former scenario, KFSH obtains a better signal.

This would be the wrong direction to take KLOS. KLOS has a solid Male 25-54 base which pays off tremendously, especially with Mark & Brian in the mornings. KLSX was only successful as FM Talk due to Stern and Leykis, other than that KABC-FM wouldn't work.

There's already been KLSX, that was talk on FM. KKLA is Christian talk on FM. I don't get that there hasn't been an FM talk station in LA when there has been.
It seems that Salem doesn't necessarily care about their stations billing, they usually like to keep them and hold them off for sales or use them for their ministry purposes.
I've never quite understood why Salem has held off from placing The Fish on a stronger signal like 99.5. It seems like it would do a lot better on that signal...

Reading the post again and realized I forgot one little important word. NEWS/talk.

They would be the first FM news/talk station in the market.

Heck, they could even use this in the overnight hours:

What Flipping One Of These Siginals 94.3 Or 105.5 FM

The 94.3 / 105.5 / 94.3 trombo is a very strong biller and is competitive with KSCA and KLAX in ratings. Splitting it makes any of the individual signals worth about what Jill is worth.

word has it this station going be sold or its going to be flipped ...it has nothing going for it now reggeton is out, morning show is wackk and it just need a whole make over new dj's new on air new music..

All is very quiet on the format flip front.

Don has an well-deserved excellent reputation for getting the facts and the story straight, which is remarkable since he reports on the radio industry, where rumors fly fast and furious and even actual facts can change at any given moment. Since he has not reported this as a sure-thing story, that reputation is not changed.

However, future twits, tweeters, or whatever they are, proclaiming a "Big Story" such as a major format flip must now be taken with multiple grains of salt. Outside of his message, there were no other verifiable sources to the story that I am aware of, so the excitement and hype were simply not warranted. Moral of the story: Don't believe everything some tweaker twits. Or something like that.

Wake me when it actually becomes interesting again.

The big flip is still coming. When it finally happens, everyone will say that they predicted it themselves. Funny how that works.

How's this for a wild one? ... Spose CBS Radio actually jettisons The Wave contrary to conventional wisdom and then puts KFWB (back) on 94.7, developes the brand as a talker, and eventually casts off 980 AM.

Nope. The Wave has too many billboards up right now to be a candidate for a flip. (not to mention the ratings and revenue thing) My money is still on KFI going AM/FM.
