More Nassau cutbacks

Just got credible confirmation that Mr. Shapiro is the winning bidder for Nassau properties. Package my be "different" than what was offered. Good Local broadcaster takes over failing corportate stations... nice headline.

well, when will this go public? anything can be said here without verification.

i had actually heard that scott mcqueen's old partner was making a bid.

From what I've heard, Splicer is right. I also have been told by an inside source they will be taking over Nassau's Hooksett facility. It appears Goldman Sachs/Nassau will consolidate all except WFNQ in Village West.

JimC... You make me laugh! Scott, Randy and Ted want NOTHING to do with NH radio ever again! They made their millions and do not want back in NH. If memory serves Ted exited Sconnix before they totally divested. Randy I think is still active but down south somewhere.
You are right, nothing is official until we see the joint press release. We shall see but from what i've heard it's 90% done and yes part of the deal is the Hooksett facility.

Interesting they're selling off smaller properties, understandibly and collectiely worth a pile of change.

As for JimC and the reference to the old Sconnix boys ...

Scott's unning a charterboat biz in Costa Rica (when he's not golfing)

Ted Nixon is...somewhere

Randy Odeneal spends more on styling mousse than these stations are worth in annual sales...

But you never know do you?

I'm reading the comments on this about the various owners who might be in the hunt for these properties and I get a chuckle. I'm not sure lots of people would agree with Clicker's opinion of Mr. Silberberg as an operator. There are many who don't believe Mr. Shapiro is God's gift to radio either. His Upper Valley cluster has had a continual swinging door in the programming department since it was purchased. I think there are 3 or 4 fulltime programming people for 4 radio stations. His stations only live for sales. Programming and community service are simply there to facilitate the sales department who rule the stations with an iron fist. Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Fisher do have excellent reps.

I'll second that. I'm a former employee of Mr Schmidt and currently work for Jeff Fisher. They are both outstanding operators and great people.

As for Portland I think Doc Fuller is getting that one. That's all I've heard, however, Mr. Silverberg might want that one to expand his "River" Brand.

So if the NH cluster is sold, any rumblings about Portland? I think it was only 106.7 that was being sold off there...

Ok, leave these two out of the picture (from www.radioonline.com):

Alabama Radio Group Bluewater Files Bankruptcy
Bluewater Broadcasting/Montgomery, AL, has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy after Fort Lauderdale-based Landmark Bank called its loan asking for immediate repayment of $4.5 million. Bluewater's five radio outlets in Montgomery remain on the air while the company's finances are reorganized.

According to court records, Bluewater is more that $10 million in debt. Creditors include private equity firm Alta Communications, which backed Bluewater founders Scott McQueen and Rick Peters in launching the company five years ago.

Bluewater is now considering a sale of its Montgomery outlets, which include WBAM-FM (Bama Country 98.9), Oldies WQKS-FM (Q-96.1), Urban WJWZ-FM (97.9 Jamz) and News/Talk WACV-AM which it simulcasts on WMRK-FM under a Local Marketing Agreement (LMA) with Alexander Broadcasting. (09-02-09)

Another group backed by Alta communications... The list of failures continues to grow and Alta is showing up more and more as the backer. Hopefully they are not soley into radio. Reorganize? Bank could foreclose and take a haircut on the sale of the group. Unless they are in first position and there's more value for them... Alta would be screwed then. Should be interesting.

Scott McQueen and Rick Peters? Wasn't Rick Sconnix's programming VP at one point? Bluewater? Could have been more original and called themselves "Sceeters" or "McPeters"... Maybe "Queen Pete". It's late and I'm just punchy! I didn't know scott was still in the business. Sorry to see anyone fail but I think he'll be OK. Peters? Who knows.

Scott runs a charter Big Boy's Toy Boat business in Costa Rica, and plays golf in his enormously comfortably spare time. If he were somewhere running a radio station(so it probly wouldn't be ALABAMA.

And it probably wouldn't be in the shitter now.

Rick peters was agood programing hatchet guy.

Still nothing new on the Nassau Broadcasting deal. What's going on? This was suppoed to be put to bed over a month ago. Something does not smell right.
As for Scott, I heard he was a good operator. Definetly had a knack for getting in and out at the right times. This time might be different. Rick Peters I know a little about. He's was good programmer. Sounds like he bit off more than he could chew here. But then again the economy has claimed more expereinced owners and groups. Sad to see anyone get the short end of the stick

Let's not be too hasty. Anyone? We can all think of some fat cat who we hope is on the back end of that old saying, 'what goes around comes around'.

Took a while to catch up with this thread! Wow. I worked with Rick Peters and Scott McQueen back in the 90's during the LMA of Sunny 101.5. THAT was an experience. Both are quality guys. Rick was a smart programmer and Scott a good operator/owner. I don't know anyone I would wish bancruptcy on. No one. Sorry. Especially these guys who I respect.
It does sound like Jeff Shapiro ended up with the Nassau properties... but why no announcement. I thought it was done. I think if Jeff can do what he's done with 107.7 with the new signals, local radio may soon have more of a (dare I say) Pulse in NH.

Mr. Shapiro has proved to be a quality local operator. IF he closes on the Nassau deal it would give him 3 Conocrd FM signals and one in the lakes region. I think he can make that work... depending on the price of entry, the local economic health and what he does with them.

splicer38 is right...although don't compare shapiro programming to the upper valley. very sloppy. in fact just pathetic. it's funny how you can tell know one cares, or wants to be there, just by listening.

thanks for the paycheck jeffy.

smooches,

Mary ;-)
