Merlin's problem is that they already made an impression on listeners when they sounded bad and were hyping unimportant celebrity schlock. So Merlin's not just battling CBS, they're battling themselves.
If WWWN and WEMP had debuted with their current product, they'd have done much better.
To KROI's credit, they sound focused and relevant. I hope they do well. The news format takes a couple of years to pay off, so I hope Radio One gives this plenty of time to work.
One of the best-sounding news stations I've ever heard was KOGO in San Diego around 1984; I think they gave it six months.
Slow and steady wins the race.

First, seemed like the "Super Committee" interviews and commentary had a rightward slant. I can get that from America's Radio News Network. If you're getting opinions from the GOP, you ought to have a Dem or two on as well. It's impractical to expect totally equal numbers, but if this is "zero spin," there should be more real balance.
I even felt there was a rightward slant in Scott's comments; I don't want to hear that. Just ask questions to draw out the interviewee. Keep your biases to yourself.
Second, KROI veered a bit too much into talk radio territory, with Scott giving the phone number, soliciting listeners' opinions and airing one.
Now that there's funny...but...if you listen to KTRH all day long...I would say the comment above most likely apply to them. Miss five minutes on any of the talk shows...you can pretty much hear what you missed three or four more times before midnight. I really don't think that dog hunts(the KROI pun).AlexisB said:KROI?
Keep Regurgitating Old Information
Same half dozen stories all day long so far...I'm just sayin'
