Next NFL Blackout Victim...

Here's a big shock: The matchup between the 0-7 Rams and the 1-6 Lions has been blacked out in Detroit:
http://www.detnews.com/article/2009...75/1126/sports0101/No-local-TV-for-Lions-Rams

In addition, the Chargers and the Cardinals are both on the bubble after receiving extensions. The fate of their matchups on local television this weekend will be announced later today.

I'll be willing to bet that the Arizona Fox stations are praying for a Cards blackout, so that they can carry the Favre Bowl in Green Bay. ;D

With less than 1000 tickets not yet sold, I'm sure the game will be on local TV in Arizona. But with all the Midwestern transplants in AZ, Minn/GB probably has a much higher potential audience that Carolina/Arizona.

Week 9:

Jaguars blacked out again:

And it looks like the Bengals will suffer the same fate for the first time in about 50 games, provided they haven't sold the 3,500 tickets available yesterday:
http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2009/11/04/3500-tickets-remaining/

Bengals got an extention, time for Mr. Ochocinco to pony up his wallet again.

As for why people don't merely listen to blacked out games on the radio, it's just not the same.

Knowing him - He will.

At least most radio announcers don't sound like having an orgasm in the booth during big plays (Unlike certain TV counterparts we all know).

Just my opinion.....

Cheers :D

The Raiders will more than likely be blacked out and probably will not sell out the rest of the year. The Rams is another possiblity this Sunday.

I'm also hearing the Ravens-Browns Monday Night game might be blacked out in Cleveland. They've yet to have a blackout ever since the team returned a decade ago, and it's been a few years since a night game was blacked out in general. Given how much of a mess the Browns are, I can't blame the fans for this.

I guess when "Dawg Pound Mike" speaks, the rest of the fans listen! I think that "sit-out" at the start of the game is still on... although I believe that was contingent on the team's owner meeting with Mike, which he recently did.

So if it's blacked out, I know no OTA station would carry the station, but what would ESPN feed? a black screen or could they feed ESPN News?

Most likely ESPNews would be shown in place of ESPN in Cleveland during the game, as this is what airs on ESPN in New York when the Yankees are airing on YES (except for Sunday nights).

ESPN's Adam Scefter said on twitter that the Browns have avoid a blackout thanks to sales from the team, ESPN, Bud Light and the local Fox station.

The Raiders are blacked out once again, though.

We've got a bevy of blackouts looming for Week 11... In addition to the Bills-Jaguars tilt at Jacksonville - which is expected to not sell out a single home game this year, other matchups include:

Rams-Cardinals:
http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/ar...blackout-could-be-looming-for-rams-cardinals/

Chiefs-Chargers:
http://chiefsblog.kansascity.com/?q=node/1107

And last but not least - and not surprisingly, either - Browns-Lions:
http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/sports/nfl/lions/lions_facing_possible_8th_tv_blackout_in_11_games

That makes four. Would that be a record for most blacked out games in a single week?

Update: Rams granted an extension to sell 4,500 tickets within 24 hours (good luck with that)...

Meanwhile, Jags confirm Sunday's game blacked out on local TV, as is the matchup between the 1-8 Browns and 1-8 Lions in Detroit. (I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland requested the game be blacked out in their neck of the woods, too.)

The Chargers' fate will be decided later today...

The Bronco play the Chargers not the chiefs.
Bengals at Raiders will be blacked out as well.

Ken's right. And I am not seeing anything in the San Diego Union-Tribune to indicate that there's a blackout threat. Kansas City is playing Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Oops, I'm jumping the gun a bit, sorry - the Chiefs play the Chargers next Sunday...
