Pandora rocks why?

Also put on the list! RADITAZ?

It seems Raditaz is powered by Echo Nest.

At this rate Pandora stock should be soaring in no time. All their competition is switching to the same engine to power their custom stations. And they are all awful! It doesn't matter how many blogs, tweets, facebook pages, etc. you search to build your station engine. Some teenage twitter queen can in theory impact what I want to hear using Echo Nest. How does that even make sense? You can't build a custom station to your tastes if it doesn't ask you what your tastes are. If you can't add more than one seed and you can't ban artists, then it is a waste of time. And if it doesn't actually learn, which it seems it doesn't, then what good is it?

Actually, Pandora is losing it's listeners.

http://siteanalytics.compete.com/pandora.com/

Doubt it will make a comeback.

and here's a program pandora uses to directly measure it's site visitors

http://www.quantcast.com/pandora.com

Website traffic is falling, but that was to be expected. It follows the fate of the desktop computer. Mobile apps are replacing the need to visit the website. Their listeners measured by Triton Digital are on a climb, which measures listeners instead of visitors.

I think they will hit a wall in a couple years though. It is only a matter of time before we find that there are a lot of people who will use on-demand services to replace radio like Pandora. People continue to say Spotify, Rhapsody, etc. can't compete directly with Pandora. That is true. But I think that fact is irrelevant. The teenage crowd loves Pandora because it is free. But once on-demand services take over a large portion of the market, it will not matter anymore. At that point, internet radio services lose their relevance. Custom playlists on on-demand services are not radio, but it doesn't matter if the listeners use them instead. This is happening, especially with the current teenage crowd. And with an open API, any thing is possible. Radio can be integrated commercial free with unlimited customization. Built-in Echo Nest stations are just the beginning. There are plenty of people, myself included, who will continue to use multiple services. But many won't. It will be Spotify, Rhapsody, Rdio and the services using their APIs. Pandora won't go away, but they will need to adapt to stay on the top.

You are right bout that radiophilly! I do like jango I can make a channel and put the bands and or artists in their and it's a great mix for me but the swearing needs to be censored so I can listen to jango! If slacker had a huge mix of alternative and rock.

I do have to thank you, raditaz was a great site.

What's hurting Pandora is it's "skip limit". It's got great features, and a clean site design so it's appealing. But some people will get sick of the skip limit.

Supposedly it is a limit set by the DMCA, yet DMCA does not clearly state that unless I missed it. Some services don't care about the supposed limit. So who knows. Pandora probably won't get rid of it.

I'm gonna try listening to national Iheartradio channels covering rock and alternative and or ALT. Rock! I emailed them playing more bands and artists of the rock channels to make them better cause those channels remind me of when I had siriusxm where it's ad free!

Remember, it's Clear Channel. They may not even check the emails.

Well they e-mailed me back. Said thanks for the feedback!

We will see if it happens, If they put all the bands on them channels!

Yup, Slacker power AOL Radio. But it won't give you the depth or control that Slacker provides. AOL Radio doesn't include all the features.

We pretty much exhausted every pliable option - there is Deezer but it's not available in USA or Canada yet.[/b

Anyone here try 8Tracks?

http://8tracks.com/

This one, rather than just pulling up individual songs, plays user-uploaded playlists (kinda like Grooveshark in that respect). Many different genres. Like I said, you can't just pull up individual songs, but you can listen to music as a complete set or playlist. I've uploaded quite a few mixes myself.

And yes, they do have Android and IOS apps.

I need to give 8tracks more of a try, but it seems very nice :D.

I do like the new GUI better than the old one! It makes using the service a lot more enjoyable and looks better. I may have to agree with you after all, but place Slacker in 2nd place (It's been my favorite for a while now). :)

The new Pandora and the new Jango GUI are major improvements. Now if only Slacker would upgrade theirs.

I tried out iHeart again. I let it play near continuously, whenever I was nearby. 2 Stations. The algorithm proved to be complete crap. I chose country to be the genre, since it is probably one of the easiest to build a station on. Yet one station based on a primarily 90's male artist won't play female artists, and the other station based on Montgomery Gentry only plays two female artists, both of which I hate. How can Clear Channel market a product that is so bad? I am not a major female artist fan, I like a balance. iHeart fails to even remotely produce that. The stations also heavily favor some artists that have little in common with the seed and I can ban them to no end and they still play more songs. And the stations are extremely repetitive. To the point where it is questionable if it is even legal.

My custom channel broke. Seems iHeart doesn't comprehend my thumbs down and thumbs up like I would expect. The station played strictly male artists until I started banning every single song sung by a male artists. I finally forced it to play 2 females artists. But giving their songs a thumbs up surprisingly did not bring more. It just started a trend of serving up really poor quality songs. I wouldn't even call it music. So now, after giving several more songs a thumbs down and having to vote down some songs as many as 5 times, the station finally broke. No more music. Is the echonest or iHeart at fault? No idea. But this is a garbage service either way. :(
