Yes. The Zone flipped at 3PM on August 11, 2003. I don't recall the last song played on "Rockin Hits 104.5", but I do remember that Rich Brother Robbin and Joe Nasty were talking about the format flip all day, because it had already been well-publicized. Plenty of references to "George Plaster coming up at 3"...and then George wasn't on the air for 2 months.
After the last song, it went right into a stopset, and then The Sports Zone (with Willy & Darren, and no George) began at 3:06. No imaging or anything like that to launch the station, just a rough Sports Zone open with the Rocky theme. I was screening calls that day and we got far more "Why aren't y'all playing music anymore?" calls than "I want to talk to the guys" calls.
