Party's Over For 102.5?

Yes. The Zone flipped at 3PM on August 11, 2003. I don't recall the last song played on "Rockin Hits 104.5", but I do remember that Rich Brother Robbin and Joe Nasty were talking about the format flip all day, because it had already been well-publicized. Plenty of references to "George Plaster coming up at 3"...and then George wasn't on the air for 2 months.

After the last song, it went right into a stopset, and then The Sports Zone (with Willy & Darren, and no George) began at 3:06. No imaging or anything like that to launch the station, just a rough Sports Zone open with the Rocky theme. I was screening calls that day and we got far more "Why aren't y'all playing music anymore?" calls than "I want to talk to the guys" calls.

Those calls always come with the territory when flipping from music to spoken word.

"Hey! Shut up and play some music!"
