Probable E-skip, up here in Ottawa!

Now that it's safe to post again (I've lost a number of posts, last week), I'll put up my catches during our most recent e-opening last week (can't remember what day specifically). Lots of signals were flying around for a bit, though I managed to ID a couple, before the skip faded out and fringe/tropo set in.

89.7 KJTH 'House FM' Ponca City OK 2044km/1270mi
103.9 KKIX 'KIX104' Fayetteville AR 1836km/1141mi (over CBC Radio 2's Peterbourgh ON outlet)

Besides the raft of Toronto area hits, to new fringes for me were:

91.7 CIXL 'Giant FM' Welland ON 338km/210mi (over semi-local WRVJ (WRVO) in Watertown NY)
92.1 CKPC 'The Jewel' Brantford ON 402km/250mi (usually, though in the opposite direction, I receive CHOD Cornwall)
BTW, both of the above are adjacents to my local (Brockville ON) CBC outlet 91.9 CBOB.

My family has property on Bobs Lake which isn't too far from you. E-skip seems to be a common occurrence every time I go there. We would be watching the local channel 2, which is Global TV, and we would frequently begin seeing double images from another channel. I remember seeing a PBS channel from Florida. Just a couple years ago, when I was at the lake, I remember receiving a bunch of South Carolina FMs.

WPBT-2 Miami. Before DTV, it was probably THE most-logged E-skip station on the East Coast and in the Midwest. Honorable mention to WESH-2, and WEDU-3 as well as lots of KDFW-4 and KCWX-2 appearances in the East...

Bobs Lake, eh? Your family's made a nice choice of territory :D. Indeed, Perth and Westport are regular spots for us. I'd bet Foleys Mountain (above Westport) would be an interesting perch, though my wife would have no patience we me bringing one of my radios up there.

Our property is located on the north shore of a large bay, and the clear lake view makes for excellent TV and radio reception. Back in the analog days, channels 3 and 5 from Syracuse were everyday occurrences. Watertown signals came in loud and clear even though we were located well outside the predicted coverage maps... like K-love on 90.1 as an example. Even Syracuse FM stations were a daily occurrence, especially in the morning or evenings.

Not too much to report, though I've extended my furtherest reach into fringe areas north of me. I'm currently receiving North Bay's EZ Rock on 100.5 (mixing at times with Peterboourgh's CRUZ and Kingston ON's flea powered UBC outlet). Also have received (presumed) North Bay SRC outlet on 95.1. I realize that 333 km/207 miles isn't too much of a stretch, but when you consider how rural Ontario actually is, finding stuff to my north west, is a treat. :)

Well, good morning to you too!

I've got 93.5 KKDT (Dave 93.5) Burdett KS 2095km/1300 mi booming in like a local.

Today has been amazing for E Skip here in Tampa!

I got so many stations from New York State and Canada.

The Canadian stations I got an ID from were 99.9 CKFM 'Virgin Radio and 102.1 CFNY 'The Edge' Toronto.

Yes, I hear things were busy down Florida way. Wish I had some time, to snag a few more from your home state, gar!

I just read on the radio in montreal group that e-skip hit Montreal this morning with stations from Kansas, Nebraska and others were loud and clear. I missed it, and I'm not much of an FM listener any more any way. E-skip doesn't happen in my neighbourho0d. Trying to get some of the local FM's is difficult.

I could use a little ID location help with this one! Currently, I have Indianapolis' "Q95" coming in on 101.5, like a local. I'm searching my usual lists and don't have any match yet, as this frequency may have recently flipped to simulcast Q95?

BTW, my antenna is no way near pointing in the direction of Indy, so it's quite a surprise to be picking this up. Interesting conditions, this morning! :)

Is there a translator nearby on 101.5 that normally rebroadcasts a 94.7?

No, on another list it turned out to be WRCD failing to cover a break in the syndicated Bob & Tom Show, which originates at WFBQ.

Reminds me of my local 94 Rock WOTT accidentally playing a station liner for the Border 106.7 between songs the other day. Both stations are owned by the same company so I'm guessing someone put the wrong file on a computer somewhere.

That's correct, Scott...false alarm :p. 101.5 WCRD 'The Fox', like many of the stations just south of the St. Lawrence, seemed to have had a malfunction with its auto-pilot/auto-bot/what-ever's running that station. Those Indy ads, sure got me excited though! Maybe next time :D.

I've got action. Two sources of classical music on 91.1, one of which is giving me full RDS "Public Radio for Memphis". One of these sources is also on 90.1...classical also now on 90.5...doing some checking.

OK, event still going on, but I've got work to do, lol!

First a note regarding the radios I've used for the catches. Clearly, the G8 is better than the PR-D5, in terms of selectivity, though the RDS feature on the D5 is very handy! :)

Tons of action, but here's the ones which I've positively IDed.

88.5 KDCR Sioux Center IA 1641km/1020mi
88.7 KLNE 'NET Radio'(RDS) Lexington NE 1994km/1239mi
89.1 KHNE 'NET Radio'(RDS) Hastings NE 1871km/1173mi
89.3 KXNE 'NET Radio'(RDS) Norfolk NE 1754km/1090mi
89.5 KHCD 'Radio Kansas'(RDS) Salinas KS 1891km/1175mi
89.7 KIWR 'The River' Ralston NE 1688km/1049mi (most ads for neighbouring Iowa)
90.3 KMNE 'NET Radio'(RDS) Bassett NE 1926km/1198mi
93.7 KNTK (RDS) Firth NE 1764km/1096mi (6 kW!)
94.1 KDNS 'KD Country' Downs KS 1944km/1208mi
94.9 KNCK 'NCK Today' Concordia KS 1900km/1181mi

Many others on the dial. Perhaps I can check later, for further action, but that's it for the moment.

Happy hunting!

Well KIWR is licensed to Council Bluffs, IA. I picked it up one time on the former FMDX Montreal Global Tuners node and counted it as Council Bluffs, IA, not Ralston NE.

Thanks for that crianbebo, fmscan.org does list it as Ralston NE, but it would certainly explain the favouring of the Iowa based ads.

Also, when I saw you had posted, I was hoping a bit, that you'd perhaps had bagged one of these Mid-West stations, from your location on the left coast. That would be kinda neat. My furthest FM catch thus far, is that of a Texan, which is a local to one of our members here. :)
