R.I.P. ROW

I just heard a promo on Magic 100.9 to change your presets to AM 590 because Magic is moving there.

I flipped over to the AM and sure enough there it was.

What becomes of the WROW staff?

What ends up on 100.9?

Here is my guess. Pamal puts country on it to try and chip some numbers away from WGNA so that B95 can rise again. I have heard that Chuck Taylor has been in the building a few times. Makes sense that they would try and bring B back to when things were good and attack WGNA at the same time. Will they put Froggy 1071 on it or a local country format?

Bet Paul V is having a good day.

I doubt seriously that 100.9 will become a country station. When 96.3 was country, the classic country format never got numbers good enough, then they tried a modern country format called "power country" which was ironic because WGNA is a class B where then WPTR-FM 96.3 was a class A which lasted a matter of months and 96.3 became an urban station. I would sooner think that 100.9 might take on the syndicated talk shows that were on 590 to try to have a cleaner signal up against Vandenburgh's talk 1300.

I wish that 100.9 FM will be the new home for classic/current Dance music or CBSFM's on air signal. Either one will be good.

I was watching the news today that WROW is going to change by tommorow when the station is simulcasting "Magic 100.9" with a more CBS-FM type format with the liners done by Ziggy of CBS-FM and "News/Talk 99.3". It's going to last a few weeks until maybe 100.9 will considered a format flip. It would be a WBPM type format that Randy Turnip does. WBPM is another station from Pamal, the same company that owns WROW and WKLI. Or maybe a CHR type station like "K-100" did back in the late 90's when it was once a Top 40 station. Or maybe an FM talk station like the one you hear on 99.3. Find out in a few weeks.

Remember when WROW signed on back in 1947? That was 63 years ago.

WKLI has been in the top ten of local radio ratings for awhile. Must be that Albany B is looking for a younger demographic. WKLI is NOT light rock but Adult Standards. They were trying to compete with B95, this area's real light rock station,by slipping in some 80's and 90's tunes for a time but recently have been changing their mix towards a older skewing "Legends" sound. They probally figure older listeners don't mind AM so much. For many years WROW AM was a popular "Easy Listening" station. This might turn out to be a very stupid move if 100.9's new format doesn't bring the same or more listener numbers than "Magic".
As far as 590's demise I only listened to Dr. Joe on Saturdays. Otherwise it was just more right wing nonsense.

What about a news / talk format on FM ?? Lots of benefits to for them to put the format on that signal..

After losing Vandenburgh and crew to WGDJ and then losing both Mark Williams and Mike and the Mad Dog, the writing was on the wall as WROW's ratings plummeted from the 3's to the 1's. Sad day for Albany talk radio I presume. I wonder if either WGY or WGDJ will pick up any of WROW's programs ie Glenn Beck.

I can't imagine why they'd put TALK on 100.9 If it's competition they're after -- with 1300, I would think they'd already HAVE that. 590 is a better signal than 1300. It doesn't appear to me that moving talk to FM is going to make something disappointing into something fabulous (rating/money-wise) Perhaps 1300 would have the chance to add a few of ROW's syndicated fare.

As far as music goes; WGNA listeners are a pretty devoted bunch. I can't see `em switching unless they have good reason to. As far as uniqueness goes, one of the few formats not being represented in this area (except on HD) is smooth jazz. It had a good following, although not the best of ratings, back on 104.9 a few scant years ago. And I know the SJ format has been suffering in various markets coast to coast... but again, they are a very loyal bunch, and skews around the same demographic as the current "Magic" audience.

Anyway, that's MY take. :-\

I highly doubt we will ever see smooth jazz coming from any transmitter linked to a studio on Johnson Road. Me thinks the powers that be would rather chop off a fun body part before they would allow that to be a full time format.

Country makes sense. 96.3 and 104.9 are dogpile signals. They don't deliver. 100.9, although also a Class A has great penetration and is one of the best choices to actually have a run with country that has a chance. Don't forget that Pamal has Froggy in Glens Falls and they could match (exceed actually) the coverage of GNA.

Let's just watch.

If they did go with country, I would hope that more classic country would be mixed in then is now in the froggy format, so that they would not be exactly the same as GNA. It should be noted that Froggy 107.1 was once simulcasted with 104.9 until the edge came along.

The people at ABC are not stupid. They have not only the GM, but VP of Programming and consultants all conversing with each other. Whatever happens, must make an impact.

GEEZ!!-- you make it sound as if I'm lobbying for 24 hr polka!!

Alright, I won't dismiss the country theory, but IMO it's the 2nd worse format to hip-hop! I change the channel just as quick on either one I land on.

P.S.... I happen to enjoy the MAGIC format, and will like it just as much on AM.

MANY Truths here, kids. Country fans are a devoted bunch and will not switch, even with a morning show as bad as sean and richie. High school kids could do better than these two, they can't even run a board.

as I have said for many years- WGNA needs some serious competition...should be interesting

oldies4ever ;D

I think it's great WROW is going music on AM....... let's see if they get a 2.0 share 12+

Too many AMs are doing boring talk... how many times can we have people complain about Obama.

Not every body does content like Rush, so let's play a song. Play Your Song from Elton John.

It will help the AM band keep listeners...

I remember visiting WROW radio when it was in the ch 10 building, it played records then, sleepy MOR,

if you play the right songs on AM radio you can get an audience, will it not beat WGY, no, but you can get a number

and sell some spots... If you play the right titles you can build to a 2.5 12+, but with WGDJ on at 1300, there's too many talkers.

Your all wrong...FM Talk! The only hole in the market that because of their lack of promotional support that (let's face these people don't have the proper capital to market a direct competitor) could actually gain a decent foothold.
