Radio 106.7

Cookie cutter, yes. But if you think about it, think of the economies of scale. No one ever accuses McDonald's of having the same menu in every city everywhere as being "cookie cutter". I see it as a franchise really. Every city has a Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC TV station, I guess I see no difference with this.

Though a late response - don't expect a lot of chatter from Radio 106.7. This will be the poster child station for PPM coming to Columbus in a couple of years.

Did you ever see the Howard Stern flick Private Parts? When Robin Quivers got fired they brought in an old news guy who had done some summer stock, and Howard just ran him in to the ground because he was so boring and plain. He had the famous line "I think we should be doing the news now". Remember him? I've been listening to 106.7 since it lit up, and at first it was fresh and new. Good playlist, quick breaks, dry imaging. Now the station reminds me of that rock station with the old news guy as the DJ 24/7. It's just kind of hokie to me now. I still love the music, but I find myself rolling my eyes whenever there's a talkover or they go in to a break. I always think to myself...I think we should be doing the news now!

Looks like radio 106.7 has an *actual* website now and not just a one-pager. Though streaming is no longer working for me. Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

Well CC doesn't want to spend the money on DJ's or sales people for the station. Since they are loosing revenue why bother. I listen to CD 101 since that is the ONLY LOCAL OWNED ALT station in C-Bus. It could have been better served for a full power Pacifica affilate. Support local radio not CC run radio.

Maybe it's time to start a new thread, but I'll stick with this one anyway.

The first trend with WRXS just came out. It was on-air during one of the three months (4 weeks starting Jan 10), and earned a 0.6, which I guess you could extrapolate to a 1.8 for the three-months. Of course that may go up since there wouldn't have been much awareness or promotion yet.

Strange thing is, a competitive site which shall remain nameless lists the owner as "Your Public Radio" instead of Clear Channel. Strange... Could that be related to the WOSU translator that was on that frequency before WRXS?

I tried, I REALLY tried to listen and support CD101... but I just don't like their music selection and production compared to 106.7.

Why would CC copy the successful CD 101.1. I would rather listen to one of the few local FM stations that is not owned by a major media company.

If WYTS ever reappears in the chart, Your Public Embarrassment will further identify it. Unless of course 1230 switches to "Secrets", in which case Your Public Relations Master Stroke will appear in the ownership column.

I wouldn't call it copying... 1067 is way more "mainstream" (and even pop rock-leaning) in music selection.
1011 is "alternative" (or "indie" as the kiddies call it these days) with some crossover appeal.

1067 is almost like the 'QFM96' of a new generation. If the Q's playing ACDC, Zeppelin, Van Halen, and new stuff like Nickelback, 1067 slides up the "classic" rock timeline about 10 to 15 years and has Nirvana, Green Day, Oasis, plus newer bands like The Killers.

Late yesterday they fixed the name of the WRXS owner on the site that Nu Roo referred to, but its format description remains unchanged -- alternative. Dave, if you polled one hundred music fans and asked them if your own examples of Nirvana, Green Day, Oasis, and The Killers were alternative bands or mainstream acts, what do you think the majority would say? And wouldn't the vote be 100-0??
Come on, there's nothing wrong with copying. It's what nonrevolutionary radio is all about.

I think you missed my point. I wasn't arguing whether 1067 is or isn't alternative. I was just stating the obvious. 101 is "more alternative" than 1067. That's how the two products differentiate. "Stuff you don't hear every day" was CD101's old positioning and it still rings true today in their format. 1067 is all about familiarity. Because of these differences, that's why I don't view 1067 as a direct copy of 101.

That's a pretty subjective assumption.

There's no such thing as revolutionary radio because in the end, it's still radio.
The internet is the revolution.
