Superbowl (so far)

Well-matched teams and not a lopsided snoozer. High-energy celebration at halftime. Mix of funny and sentimental commercials some of which hit, some don’t, just like every year in memory.

Pretty ordinary game. Typical, and trashy, halftime. Commercials? Humbug.

Mahomes is turning into Cutler, and the Chiefs are falling apart. With just under 10 minutes left in the game as I write this, they'd better get it together, and soon.

I liked the halftime show. Shakira was great; J-Lo... well, she is 50. I expect flack from the Bible Belt over it, however.

Commercials? I really couldn't care less. The few I paid attention to weren't worth my time.

Mahomes wasn't up to his usual theatrics nor was QB G. SF defense really didn't show up and their O had only 1 sustained drive. SF could not defend against the short pass.

This game illustrates why I watch NCAA football.

Forgot: Audio went almost totally out during halftime show sparing me the horrible songs.

I thought it was a pretty good broadcast by Fox tonight. Buck and Aikman were politically correct, (must have been coached). They did the right thing with a Super Bowl broadcast, being impartial and not getting too into football jargon. The NFL 100 video leading into the game was terrific. And the game was also terrific. A Fox win, no doubt.

Obviously, I loved the halftime show. I'm fortunate to know all four of the artists who appeared, and I'm so happy that they represented Hispanics so magnificently.

... of course, my preferred "football" allows nobody but the goalie to touch the ball. But the broadcast overall was well done and the commentary, as you say, not polarizing and professional.

Just out of interest, how did people on here watch? Online, OTA or 'traditional' cable?

I'm seeing lots of complaints about buffering and freezing from Roku users on the relevant groups this morning, rather reminiscent of the Liverpool v Tottenham Youtube farce over here last year.

I have Frontier for cable and 1gb fiber internet in the Coachella Valley of CA. The entire show was perfect.

Spectrum...no problems...clear as a bell. (Which is amazing since my local Fox station has had horrendous pixilating problems for over a year, but somehow avoided them tonight!)

Granted the ability to dance like that and actually be singing at the same time would be difficult. Wasn't surprised when the halftime started with recorded tracks. I was however, disappointed that the lip-syncing was pretty bad. I get it; the show had much more emphasis on choreography, and less on musical talent.

Not to go as far as Landtuna with the bah-humbug, but they should ban lip-syncing a Superbowl halftime performance. To me, if you are a legitimate musical artist or group, then there is no bigger a stage than Superbowl to actually perform on. Step up like Prince did, and put on a real show. Even in the pouring rain if necessary.

I'd give performers who have dancing as part of their act a pass, especially since no one wants a flawed performance at the Super Bowl -- especially the labels and the networks. There's too much at stake to allow a dance first/sing second performer to work without a net at the Super Bowl. I seriously doubt Shakira was moving the way she did on the Super Bowl stage while she was doing the vocals for her studio recording of "Hips Don't Lie." So why do you demand she do both at the same time on what, as you say, is the biggest stage she'll ever perform on, in front of a stadium crowd that wants mostly to see her dance and probably can't hear the vocals clearly over the beat anyway?

Thusfar none of my female family members or acquaintances are in agreement with
Mr. Eduardo on the halftime show. They are all slamming it as being one step above a
striptease at a nudie bar.

It seems like we should be past the hubbub over lip syncing. Particularly under the specific circumstances. The “back in my day they did it live” epitomizes what OK, Boomer is all about. It’s a singular spectacle, and—really—millions upon millions just don’t care. We’ve come to accept the use of vocal tracks in far lower profile settings.

The problem the NFL has is finding a musical performer who can reach everyone in their audience without alienating people. With music becoming more fragmented, there are fewer options that will work for the halftime show.

I watched the first half at a friend's house that was streaming and there was a buffering problem once. I don't know where they were getting the game from though if it was Fox or a service like Sling. I watched the second half at home on Spectrum and had no problem.
