Swift-Mania Drives SNF Ratings

Tokyo is 17 hours *ahead* of Las Vegas because of the international date line. Her Saturday night show in Tokyo, if it's over by 11 PM Tokyo time, will wrap up very early Saturday morning PST. She will have plenty of time to get to the game.
Particularly if she and her crew fly private.

However... a reminder that your moderator (well, this one anyway) draws the line when it starts turning into personal attacks on the quirks of other RD members.

Anyway, we're all a little quirky or we wouldn't be here. Live and let live, or I will close the thread. Thanks.
Unless I close it first!

Valid point. I have been called "unamerican" because I don't like football... yet, like music and movies, all forms of entertainment are based on personal taste which should be honored and respected.

I'll watch a game here and there if I don't have something else to do or something I'd rather watch more. Other than a few big names, I couldn't tell you most of the players on the home team, and virtually none on others. I don't give a darn about fantasy football, betting or any of that. I have a couple of ball caps, but refuse to spend money on jerseys and other expensive fan gear. All of which gets me lots of side-eye and incredulous looks. How can a male in a football crazed town be mostly ambivalent? I'll watch the Super Bowl mostly out of habit, but pay much closer attention to the commercials. Snack and potty breaks during the game itself. And if I get bored enough after an hour or so, I'll go read the newspaper, or just go to bed.

Even my wife gets the "look" when she says she doesn't have something for spirit days at work. We're oddballs, as if it's an alien concept to not set aside every Sunday afternoon...and night, and Monday night, and Thursday night, and the occasional Sunday morning, and Saturday....to follow every moment of football season. Christmas day, half of the family was glued to the TV for the NFL. I had zero interest in that on a day I'd rather spend talking and enjoying a screen-free day. But apparently football trumps all, including family gatherings. .

I don't remember when I last had that situation.

I'm a few miles outside what was one, but right now the team's the worst in the NFL and now everyone knows something bad the owner did.

I just watch the commercials.

Am I then a "halfamerican" because I like college and not professional football (no TS at college games!)? Love playing football (when a bit younger) and like playing basketball but can't stand to watch it - same with "futball" and tennis. Hockey is my biggie but I grew up in the desert so never saw a sheet of ice that big until in my 20's. Loved to ride, and race, all manner of two wheelers and ATV's but get bored quickly watching.

Yup, we all different.

Still strange to think how much KC has been more and more put on the radar due to the Chiefs and now her. Growing up, the team was awful...just like the Royals were.
I mean…Green Bay Wisconsin is pretty much only known to the rest of the world for one reason, and it ain’t a specialty cheese. 😉

Taylor Swift Super Bowl trip: Pop star reaches LAX in 5,700-mile journey from Tokyo to watch Chiefs, fans say

One of Super Bowl LVIII's many storylines is nearing its peak, as fans believe global pop star Taylor Swift reached Los Angeles' LAX airport on Saturday as part of her 5,700-mile journey from Tokyo to Las Vegas. It seems likely that she'll arrive in time for the action, even though she couldn't land directly in NFL title game's host city.
The trip from Japan to California took 12 hours as she crossed the international date line and nine different time zones to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and her boyfriend, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Luckily, Vegas is 17 hours behind Japan.
Swift's tight travel window was presented by her ongoing Eras Tour and its international touring schedule. As soon as she completed her fourth consecutive show in Japan's Tokyo Dome on Saturday night, she rushed to a private jet at Haneda airport, according to the Associated Press.

Chiefs owner's daughter confirms Taylor Swift will attend 2024 Super Bowl: She's 'part of Chiefs Kingdom'

Taylor Swift fans worked diligently to track her private flight all the way from Japan on Saturday, hoping the pop star makes it to Allegiant Stadium to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. Gracie Hunt, the daughter of Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt, has since confirmed Swift will attend the big game -- and is celebrating the news.
"She's coming!" Hunt told People magazine at Saturday's Fanatics Super Bowl Party. "She's coming! We're excited."
There had been rampant speculation about the feasibility of Swift's travel, considering the Grammy-winning singer only wrapped a four-day stretch of concerts in Japan on Saturday. But she hurried to catch a private flight out of Tokyo, per CBS News, and benefited from a 17-hour time difference between Tokyo and America.
Hunt added that a "Chiefs Kingdom afterparty" has been planned for Sunday night, once the Chiefs' matchup with the San Francisco 49ers is complete, but did not confirm whether Swift and/or Kelce will be in attendance. The two have publicly confirmed their dating relationship in recent months, and their celebrity pairing has become one of the top storylines of the NFL season.

Um, what? The entire spectacle is about far more than football. And they’ll cover every play. But don’t pretend Swift is somehow the first non-pigskin thing to get some attention.

You know who takes things too far? Actual stalkers. That’s a thing. Fans following who they enjoy isn’t being a stalker,

The Super Bowl has been bloated spectacle for a long time. The game has become a footnote. The commercials, gambling, halftime show, celebrity sightings are "The Show". Swift is just part of the vapid Pop Culture and is dating a star player. Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe were once big news in another era...

Jeeze. I have agreed with you twice in a week. I must be growing senile.

Oh no, people find something enjoyable and fun. And the star player is dating one of the biggest musical performers on the planet.
Unless I missed it, CBS did not show Taylor Swift at all during the first quarter. That's gotta be a ratings killer...😑

*** Update -- One Swift sighting in 2nd quarter. Chiefs then fumbled on the next play...***
