THE KVET SLIDE CONTINUES

Remember when market manager McKay praised Shannon & Burke for the great job they were doing in re-inventing K-VET? Yup. They re-invented it from 4th place from the top to nearly 4th place from the bottom. And it only took two years. Now that takes talent!!! :D

And they also someone on here said that the morning show was doing better than it ever did.

They should just LMA it to the KOKE staff or something...

Shocked
^^
I third that.

When you look at it, they've actually pretty much managed to hit rock bottom, it now only beats out the two sports talks stations, a classical music station, a talk station that I'd wager most of the general public didn't even know existed and a purely automated KLove franchise....

Congratulations to those incredible programming minds...

they should sell off most of thier stations. do they still have a huge debt to pay.

why not sell kvet fm to bob cole (at reduced cost) tax write off

They already have a series of smaller market stations still in the Aloha Trust that will more than serve as an effective tax write-off!

Plus, unless the rules have changed, capital loss can only cancel out capital gain plus $3,000/yr of ordinary income. Corporations could only carry capital loss forward for 3 years. So, much of that tax write-off would never be used!

I was thinking 1.8 could be lowest KVET has ever rated since it signed on in 1946.
But then I remembered we're talking about KVET-FM.
KVET-AM has sunk a bit lower with its sports format.
So now it would probably truthful to say KVET-FM has sunk to the lowest ratings its had since it went on the air as KVET-FM in 1990.

the AM has almost disappeared from the ratings, it hasn't seen a 1.0 in a couple of years and it keeps getting worse and worse....

Question, wasn't the same great mind that oversees the FM (not Burke but Shannon) responsible for also revamping the AM, a year or so ago?

I think we know why KVET has dropped.... CC is intentionally messing with the station, causing the ratings to drop, and giving them an excuse to flip the station. Sad. A unique station getting replace with the bland, boring, KASE 101.

At this rate, I give KVET-FM until next memorial day. If it's lucky.

Wow ... rough month. Behind the all-satellite comedy station, CRISTA's Spirit 105.9 and the soon-to-be-extinct oldies station. Numbers for the Zone are pretty horrid, too ... but I'm guessing they'll get a boost -- at least in the mornings -- now that the Horn is airing Mike and Mike.

Power or 98.1 Jamz?

Who's guess?

I don't think CC-- which already is doing CHR and Rhythmic CHR in Austin-- is going to do anything to take audience from two successful stations.

CC's in somewhat of a bind with what to do with KVET. From one standpoint, PPM was not being kind to it. The audience was older than what the advertisers want, and the diary numbers were heavily based on TSL, which PPM showed wasn't as long as the diary holders remembered. I don't, however, think anyone can look at the current numbers and say the new approach is working. It looks to be even worse, much worse!

On the other hand, if Clear Channel blows up KVET, they're exposing KASE to a new competitor. Having just KASE with a full-market country signal is almost begging Entercom or Emmis to come after them. Clear Channel is trying to provide KASE's competition without damaging it. So, if you want to argue this new approach to KVET is working, I suppose you could say it's doing exactly that. However, it seems like an expensive and very inefficient way of accomplishing that goal.

Well, that won't be a first for CC.

And if KVET is supposed to be "protection", if those numbers fall any further it won't be much "protection". ::)

That's obscene where KVET ranks now. That's the mathematical equivalent of a body in decomp! When I first came to this market, if somebody would have told me that station would sink like a stone, I would have called them a damn liar. By the way, I'm not sure anybody buys any other story than Clear Channel is just tieing it up and making it starve to death. (That's sad, because 98.1 is a perfectly good, full-power FM signal.)

What if they flipped 98.1 and 103.1? Saw the Beat's Zannie K is going to pop up on Jammin' this Friday from 3-7 p.m. If they're adding talent instead of running jockless, they must be pleased with how things are going so far.
