The Wolf Becomes Sports Radio 95.7

According to Inside Radio, 95.7 is going to use some programming from Sporting News Radio.

http://www.insideradio.com/article.asp?id=2162839&spid=32061

Is this a credible source?

Chris sounds like it is a done deal that the Sharks are moving to the station. Doesn't the Sharks have to approve of the move? I am sure they wouldn't mind. It does make sense. It is a shame. Another loss to San Francisco.

CBS screwed up big time by not landing the A's. Looks like Live 105 will stay. They could go country.

Why would KITS go country? Because somebody needs to make yet another attempt at getting the Bay Area to listen to a format incompatible with the tastes of most listeners?

But would country do better than alternative in the ratings on 105.3?

I think Entercom should try and get 860, they can't survive just purely on 95.7, its not the best signal in San Jose

They'd be better off setting a stack of dollar bills on fire.

KTRB isn't worth the risk; in an ideal situation, their license should be handed back to the FCC, the towers dismantled, and the propane returned for a refund.

Live 105 ranked 13th in February 18-49 while KBWF 25th ... Live beat Wolf 25-54 too...

Why would you dump a format for one doing worse?

Agree! and We no longer Alternative on 92.3 FM and Live 105 is The Bay Area only Alternative. Country music on 95.7 FM have lower rating then Live 105. Why would you want to flip? Listen, the bear and the wolf didn't work out in the Bay Area. Turn the page

I'm outside of the Bay Area, so just curious: How many formats and calls have been on 95.7 since the KKHI-FM days?
I am guessing six, not counting the KOYT stunt: News/Talk KPIX, CHR/Pop KZQZ, Classic Hits KKDV, Country KZBR, Adult Hits KMAX & Country KBWF.
They had also stunted at one time with WTMX out of Chicago.

There was an FM station here in San Diego that simulcasted sports with their AM but the FM sports format didn't last and went to an oldies format 105.7 The Walrus

If you liked the Wolf's old Country format, then you should try listening to a great radio station from Great Bend, Kansas. It's called Eagle Country. Here is the link: http://www.khokfm.com/ Give it a listen!!!

so, will they simulcast the Sharks with K-Fox thru the playoffs and then take over completely next season?

Will the Sharks allow Entercom to take their games off 98.5 leaving no broadcast on a San Jose stick?

Agreed. Why would the Sharks leave KFOX? They've done a fine job of selling out the arena without being on a San Francisco station for quite a while. IIRC, they started on KNEW, then went to KFRC before ending up on the Fox. 95.7 as network station, perhaps? And if not Stanford, would Cal migrate here to have both football and men's basketball on the same station?

How do we know that Entercom 95.7 won't get run over by KNBR. remember back in 1994 when Group W had KPIX 95.7. and failed because one CBS took over and sold 95.7 mainly because KCBS-AM 740 was more established than KPIX 95.7. and 2 KPIX 95.7 didn't really have stable ratings.

Not necessarily. I think the main reason was that KPIX was a miserable and pathetic excuse for a radio station. I could never figure out how the company that was a radio news leader at the time (KFWB, WINS) could run such an amateurish operation.

Anyway, the supposed difference now is that a much larger percentage of the audience will not listen to AM radio on a regular basis. I would assume play-by-play sports is an exception to this. If you're a 25 year old sports fan and want to hear a Giants game, you're going to tune in KNBR, even if it is on the hated AM dial. Alternatively, if you want to hear the As, you'll find 95.7.

I would think the question is - can 95.7 find regular programming that will make regular sports-talk listeners tune away from KNBR?

I see no way the Sharks leave KFOX and have no stick in San Jose. Combined with the new Sports Radio 95.7 in SF, the Sharks have maximum coverage throughout the Bay Area.

It would be no surprise if Stanford or Cal migrated both football and men's basketball to 95.7. College teams are looking to get on FM sticks just as much pro teams. :)

KNBR has not had to deal with serious competition. They've had the sports radio market in the Bay Area pretty much to themselves. You're correct, if you want to hear a Giants' game, regardless of your age, you tune in 680 AM. To hear the A's, you go to 95.7 FM.

The sports radio landscape has changed in recent years with sporting events now broadcast routinely on FM. Bear in mind the 49ers simulcast most of their games on KSAN 107.7 FM.

IMHO, the question is will the launching of 95.7 as a sports station hasten the migration or simulcast of KGO and KNBR on FM? ;)
