The Zone heads in a new direction

What i cannot understand is why they would bring a PD in from New York who has won on a radio station that competed against the best in the business and then not give him the clearance to make moves and try to bring the Zone back to a powerhouse. The word from inside the building is the airstaff has complete faith in the guy and the management just has too many people pulling him different ways. I am sure the guy is second guessing his relocation across the country and it really in not understandable.
I think the music is moving in a great direction leaning a little younger with the Good Charlotte stuff and still appealing to the Sacramento rock cougars with Kid Rock, Creed, Sheryl Crow, etc... Let the guy sink or swim but take the swimmies off his arms so he can work!

Ah, it is a little different being the #2 guy APD vs. the #1 guy PD.

He may have been in NY, but he wasn't calling the shots, he may have implemented them and had good input, but he was not the "decider".

It is like being VP to the President.

He was the PD at WKTU for over two years...

My error dude..

You are right. He was PD for 2 years...not the longest track record, but he was still in charge

But I noticed they pulled the plug on his station and flipped format with it.

My point is that his track record in charge is incomplete at best, and unsuccesful at worst...though he was APD/MD for quite some time.

What that means for the Zone, no one really knows.

Maybe a little advertising would help, like say some of those billboards they own. Most folks don't even know they exist.

i think it's about time for a publicity stunt. (after of course they do SOMETHING with their programming) a la mark s. allen camp-on-the-billboard type deal.

Was at a BBQ today in the rain and the woman started to talk about this Renaldo guy on the Zone. Most of them said they thought he was too over the top but all of them said they are listening again and since they added a new person and toned him down that its the best thing to listen to in the AM. I am just wondering, is it because the show is good or are the other female based shows in the market so bad? I think what might of started as a stunt till they found a new show may turn into a decent rated show. You have to admit that it is very funny and completely different.

most morning shows in sacramento are bad.. i like the balance between Renaldo and Drew and now with the third person added it gives it that extra push to be successful

In my experience with these boards, it feels like people from the Zone are posting things here to make it appear like they have a winning and successful product. It's quite possible that this new morning show will be successful, but at this point, from what I have heard on the stream, it's a forced character that has a certain novelty appeal. Maybe it will work. I just think that if I am correct, you guys need to focus on producing great radio instead of posting about how great you think your radio already is.

These boards are great for boosting your own self esteem. If I am wrong, I am sorry. I have a feeling that while I will get denials, I am 100% correct.

That would explain why there is so much interest in this station. It's been years since the Zone has made any big slash in the market.

I think another reason for some of us to have interest is because the market has not had any major happenings in so long. Yes, My92 signed on BUT no jocks, all recurrents...do I need to continue??
We all had some glimmer of hope when Zone brought in a NY PD but after seeing countless quotes about how CBS won't let him make any changes it was "interesting" to say the least to see this new style of mornings come on the station. I for one would love to see what this market would be if companies like Clear Channel, CBS, Entercom, etc..actually let the PD's do what they feel would be best for their stations...

yeah, and not to mention the fact that Sac radio's been fairly boring lately, so anything to discuss is better than nuttin'. I wonder when the new morning show's going to get some press coverage.

I'm still waiting for KZZO's website to acknowledge the morning show's existence...
the threesome was still not there as of 6 p.m., 6/2/08...

Meantime, ex-KZZO morning jockette Hill Jordan is already being promoted at her new
station in SLO:

Here is a dumb thought. Byron stays in Phoenix and programs the Rhythmic CHR there. Jeff Z moves to a more natural fit at KSFM (WKTU had Rhythmic tendencies), and they find a new idiot for the village at 100.5.

Jeff is good people. But remember that WKTU was his first and only PD experience prior to KZZO. There wasn't much to do with it, as all the descisions came from Tom Poleman at WHTZ. So, in reality, this is Jeff's first real PD gig. The whole "New York PD" argument is not valid here, IMHO.

In a way, it does makes sense. Jeff Z would fit in at KSFM but I wouldn't expect him to alter that station's direction. Don't forget that WKTU/New York City had a Dance-intensive Rhythmic format during the time he was PD there.

Why in frig would they do that. KSFM is fine as it is, according to the numbers.

I just heard a rumor from a very valid , reputable source that the New "Gay" guy on the morning show is actually Budman of former Budman and Booger KSFM fame. I don't think the audience would be pleased to know they are being hoodwinked

Hey mommy, do you think the average audience even cares? I doubt it. No go make me some cookies.

Very true. How can they care if they're not listening? Honestly, I don't know anyone who can stand that lame joke the Zone calls a "morning show".

Speaking of unlistenable things on the Zone, does the PD ever listen to his weekend part-time staff? Well, one in particular. Without naming names (because my intention is not to personally insult the individual) it is more pleasing to hear nails down a chalkboard than a jock who yells into the mic during phoners and breaks, tries to sound cool by speaking in an indifferent tone, not to mention tries far too hard to be funny and by doing so, falls way short.

Sorry. Had to vent. It's just so sad. It started to look like the new PD was going to do something good with the station but so many negatives have come into play that the positives are cancelled out.

Can anyone (corporate and/or local management) please allow us to boast good radio in Sac?!
