They preempted that for this?

this morning KSTP ABC is pre-empting Good Morning America to have local news. They normally air local news from 6-7am then at 9-10am. They are going to stay with local news until 10.

Maybe instead of “morons” one could try understanding how centuries of institutionalized racism might lead people to such protests, particularly when peaceful efforts were so heavily criticized.

You make it seem as if 100% of people are and historically were racist.

Some people are racist. Some are bullies. Some are just morons. But not everyone.

There was no implication intended that everyone is racist. But when you have case after case of situations like Greg Floyd, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Philandro Castillo to name just a few, when you continue to have data that shows racial discrimination persists throughout society (hiring, banking, traffic stops...and on and on), and when you have a head of state who refers to those who dared express peaceful objection to those things as “sons of b——es,” it doesn’t matter that much in the pain and anguish of the moment who is or isn’t racist at an individual level. This is a reaction to deep-seeded, systemic issues dating back centuries. This latest murder may have been another lit match, but when society writ large continues to patronize and dismiss the legitimate complaints and concerns of entire communities, no one should be surprised the match sets off an inferno. People have learned peaceful and polite action doesn’t get results. This if nothing else gets attention.

And let’s not pretend that this country isn’t built on violent and destructive protests. It’s what the revolution grew out of. The Boston Tea Party was at its core a riot against a repressive regime. Many speak reverently of that, yet label those who are outraged and protesting the events like Greg Floyd’s murder as, well, idiots. As thugs. Not “very fine people” like those who showed up armed to the teeth at state houses.

Everyone doesn’t have to be racist if the system is still racist.

Prejudice, as defined, is something we will always deal with whether blatant or disguised. It comes in so many forms, by ethnic, sexual, religious and lifestyle lines, by sex (male and female) and many other ways. At times it is disguised in benign venues to influence opinion. And as much as we attempt to rid ourselves of prejudice in any form, it survives.

To be honest, I'd rather kill one than to look at it. I refuse to let one stay in my home. I know not all of them are bad but just the sight of one makes me want to be violent toward them. I know they're all different but I just don't like any of them based on looks alone. You can tell me they do good things but I say, then you take them because I want nothing to do with them. I tell you, for some illogical reason I just hate spiders.

anyhwo getting away from politics (there are other threads for that)

tonight Minneapolis WCCO CBS & KSTP ABC did not show national news at 5:30 tonight (they stayed with local news). KARE NBC did go to national news at 5:30

All 4 have stayed with local news since 6pm CDT. Me thinks they will stay with local news until late late night

prime time programming being pre-empted
WCCO Game On, 2 episodes of 48 hrs
KSTP Last Dance Pt 3 & 4
KMSP Flirty Dancing, Lego Masters
KARE Despicable Me 2 & SNL

biggest thing is all 4 nets have their "main" (monday-friday) evening/night anchor crew on tonight

KOMO (and I'm sure 5, 7 and 13) are showing Seattle riot coverage. Looting everywhere.

Everyone doesn’t have to be racist if the system is still racist.

The system, from my perspective as being part of the Hispanic community, changed when society changed from "Out of Many, One" to "Out of One, Many".

The wish of most, particularly generations of immigrants, was to become part of the greater society. In the process of making sure that such an integration was also transfused with equality, it became more important to be different than the same.

While that is a very broad generalization, I believe it shows how pendulum sways go in opposite directions before they come to rest in the middle. perhaps we're at the apex of a swing now and this kind of process is necessary for a more equal society to evolve.

KOMO switched back at 9pm to air "The Last Dance" documentary. KIRO switched to "48 Hours" at 10pm, but for much of the last half hour the video was just color bars. KING is doing a special 10pm newscast, while Q13 is airing its usual 10pm newscast.

All Big 4 signed off news coverage between 1:30-1:45am

WCCO was at 1:30
KSTP was 1:38
KMSP was 1:40
KARE was 1:30

KSTP did not show Good Morning America this morning but local coverage. WCCO, KMSP and KARE are showing regular programming

One thing of note is last night at 9pm KSTP ABC said they were in their 15th hour of coverage. They have a 6am newscast but I don't know if they stayed with news all day (I was gone for most of the afternoon). Guess they want to relive their owner Hubbard Broadcasting's All News Channel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_News_Channel) ;)

They are morons. If I owned a business in Minneapolis why do I deserve to have it burned to the ground? I wasn't the dumbass cop who killed someone. And how does stealing laptops and TVs from Target bring justice to Mr. Floyd's family?

I don't know everything that happened in Charlotte but here's what I experienced.

Dennis Rodman was innocent and naïve. Really? There was a time when he was that way? And that was it. Every time I checked on Charlotte's ABC affiliate, it had coverage of what was going on locally.

I was a little more than 30 minutes late starting, and TiVo only saves 30 minutes, but I recorded what I could with an antenna. I got 46 minutes starting when the Bulls got a new coach who would go on to make them a possible championship team. And by the end of the episode Rodman was with the Bulls because no one else wanted his antics. Since the events weren't chronological, I learned also that Rodman was a valuable player when Pippen was hurt. And Rodman wasn't pleased when Pippen came back and Rodman wasn't contributing all that much.

And then it was two more hours before that ABC station switched to programming other than national coverage of the protests. At 11:00 … more national coverage of the protests, but not from ABC. This station doesn't even have a news operation. If they did, I discovered when I turned on the TV hooked up to an antenna that there were protests in Greensboro. So …

Maybe I wouldn't have seen "SNL" after all. I haven't picked up the Greensboro-area NBC affiliate since just after the switch to digital. The Charlotte NBC affiliate didn't have "SNL" at all. But given what ABC was doing, maybe it didn't air. Does anyone know which episode aired, if any? Last week it was Fred Willard and the week before that Ray Charles, but if the episode first aired in the 2013-14 season, or perhaps late in the 2012-13 season, I've seen it.

If networks were showing regular programming at 10 in the west, does that mean "SNL" aired?

WPVI ABC 6 in Philly cut into The Last Dance at 8:14 for coverage. ABC cut in nationally at 9:00 Eastern on the dot and ran until 11:00 to allow the East Coast to resume local coverage from there. ABC was the only one of the Big Four to have national coverage last night, I believe.

WCAU NBC 10 cut in at 10:47 during the classic SNL repeat.

KYW CBS 3 never cut in before 11:00, I believe.

WTXF FOX 29 did not cut into programming since their nighttime news is at 10:00.

(Clippit now uses Philly affiliates for the Big Four instead of NYC)

WABC 7 in NY had no local cut-ins before 9:00. I skimmed through my DVR'd Wheel of Fortune rerun and there were no interruptions, and I tuned into the station live around 8:30 and The Last Dance was on there, and WCBS, WNBC, and WNYW all had normal programming at that time as well.

All 4 major Seattle stations broke into programming shortly after 1pm to cover the mayor's press conference. They went back to regular programming half an hour later, joining all programs in progress.

Minneapolis Big 4 have been on with news since 4:30pm pre-empting all regular programming

KEYC CBS Mankato at 6pm started carrying a live feed of CBSN Minnesota (which is pretty much WCCO)
