THREE DOG NIGHT OM MOYL

You were the one who said "naughty."

If WHO like this style? You are the one who is down on "rockin" the standards with 3 dog n, Journey, Paul McCarney, etc. Your "logic"is mystifying to me.
I'm just saying that if The Black Eyed Peas like a song that without the beat would sound like standards (the real thing) sound, maybe their fans would be able to get interested too. It's sort of like Lou Bega's "Mambo no. 5". Another example is the introduction of Blu Cantrell's "Hit 'em Up Style". None of these actually belong on standards radio, but they are an introduction to the style.

Whereas Three Dog Night, Journey and Paul McCartney don't sound like standards (the real thing, not oldies that are so old they must somehow be standards).

The clock radio turned itself on for Mike Huckabee and Lawrence Welk's "Calcutta" was playing! ;D

Before my clock radio turned itself off:

"I Get a Kick Out of You" by Sinatra followed by "Lisbon Antigua" by Nelson Riddle. This is a good day!

Mike Huckabee told us the assistant secretary of energy seems to support dictating every appliance we use. Remember, this is how we ended up with the last GE incandescent bulb plant in the U.S. clsoing, putting many out of work, so that we can all be forced to use CFLs made in China, which almost no one likes and which contain mercury.

"maybe their fans would be able to get interested too."

I'm sure the 75 year olds who like "Lisbon Antigue" and Vera Lynn (I just heard Auf Wiedersein, Sweetheart" (lovin it!!!) have lots of cd's by the "Black Eyed Peas," too.

Chimp, The Black Eyes Peas song is NOT a standard, it's modern music.
What have the Black Eyed Pease done that fits that catergory?
Actulaly The Black Eyed Peas do a version of Mas Que Nada that is pretty good, but not exactly what most of us would call "standards." It does feature Sergio Mendes though....

I'm not planning on playing it on my station because it might wake up the folks in the rest home.

I'm sure this would be more suitable for a different thread...........
but yes.... the insightful Mr. H nails it again!

I actually don't mind the CFL's. I didn't know they contained mercury. But I still eat fish despite their mercury warnings too.

I was using the term "standard" incorrectly, but this song and "Sexy" would probably fit in a category where the music SOUNDS similar but just hasn't stood the test of time. Because of the beat and the naughty lyrics, it likely won't be accepted by our audience.

Another possibility to get young people interested is "Family Guy". They actually have Frank Sinatra Jr. singing in some episodes, and the lyrics tend to be off-color but the music is the real deal. They LOVE our kind of music on that show, and just as a sitcom it's offensive and off-the-wall enough to get young people interested.

The producers do that to MOCK "our kind of music, as it's aimed for younger demos. They do that to say, "see we are one of you - not your mommy & daddy." Same psychology used by Stephen Colbert.

Just for future reference, How old are you, Chimp? I'm 61.

No, I really think they like that music. If they didn't they wouldn't be doing so much of it.

Let me put it this way: I just got Facebook a year ago, and discovered a bunch of people I graduated from high school with, and most of them are turning 50.

I was very bright. ;)
