Walton & Johnson looking for a new Flagship?

Some of you are beating a dead horse. I don't think Clear Channel is flipping KKRW to Sports, TOO MANY SPORTS STATIONS here in Houston anyway. Besides, didn't the Rockets and/or Texans sign new radio contracts with other stations already?

93.7 would be perfect for a classic rap hiphop r&b with a playlist of stuff from mostly 1988 to 2002

93.7 would also be good for a rebirth of the old power 97.5 format since there signal is like 20 times better here in Houston
I do not see talk radio or sports being but on this station no way

Actually, mr. ric, Rockets and Astros signed a new contract WITH Clear Channel, which would add to the speculation of KKRW flipping, especially since the Rockets' games are being carried over KTRH & KBME right now, while KODA is in the Christmas spirit. KBME's signal can't handle actual game coverage, since there are parts of Houston that KBME can't cover. I think the horse is alive and well, my friend. Whether KKRW flips is debatable. Needing a station with better coverage for the Rockets and 'Stros is not.

No

Yes.

DJBoutit3 might have a point about the 2nd choice. I think something similar to the old KRWP would be a good fit. Both KBXX and KMJQ are too big of stations to not have a strong competitior, especially with the recent ratings they've been getting.

Classic rap & hiphop? Jesus, yes. We need that, and please more Mexican music. But God forbid we have an actual oldies station in this huge market.

Oldies would get borning fast hearing the same 50 songs over and over. With a classic Rap Hiphop R&B station the main playlist could be 250 to 500 tracks

If you extend the playlist to include the early-mid 80s, you would have a great sounding classic hits station, something similar to what KONO in San Antonio is doing now.

They already play 80s???? What you want them to have the same format 1069 which failed

Holy cow...are you guys serious? The Point failed? It lasted for 11 years! How is that failing? I can't even respond to the oldies comment. If you really think there were only 50 songs recorded before 1964...well I just don't know what to say for you.

It all boils down to this. 93-7 may or may not be looking for a new format. Per their website, Walton & Johnson will be back on the air next year in Houston....which leads to the really obvious question....who's flipping a station to rock to accommodate their show? CBS? Cox? Cumulus? An AM?

BTW, what is a main playlist? Is there such a thing as a back-up playlist, or an auxillary playlist? This is new to me....

Capt. Showbiz...you are spot on! Give us another brokered Arabic station and we'll be set.

The point was a disaster. Limited playlist and downright lifeless. It only lasted 11 years because Cox wouldn't throw in the towel. In its last few years in the ratings it never reached a 2 share.

Another couple of dinosaurs die off. Perhaps the public just grew tired of Obama-induced derangement, race baiting and homophobia. Tastes change, you know. Next stop will probably be a blog at World Net Daily.

Disasterious playlist yes, complete failure no. Cox didn't throw in the towel because it was billing very well...even though the ratings released to the public never showed that aspect of the station's over all success. Now...if we're talking about the Point post PPM roll out well.....yeah, it became an absolute failure and resulted in what has become a total waste of the 100kw Conroe stick.

Sorry spinman...they will return. New year, new station.

But not in Houston. Out of options there, unless you think Gow would put them on 1560.

Oh yes, stan, in Houston. Pretty funny if they WERE to end up on 1560 but I highly doubt it. I figure, and this is just me, they'll end up @ CBS. That would mean either an end to Mix's 20+ year run as Hot AC or KILT's 30+ year run as country....unless, as mentioned earlier, KLOL and W&J reunite...as if once wasn't enough. ::) We will see.
