WKVE 103.1 testing with classic rock

As I understand it, "THE SO CALLED SWITCH IS TO OCCUR--LATER THIS WEEK"...
REAL NICE, JJ.

NICE TRY, JOHNY.

YOU EVEN QUOTED YOURSELF IN YOUR NEXT POST.

WAY TO GO.

BUT YOU’RE OUT IN SPACE SOMEWHERE, CLUELESS.

OF COURSE I GET THE FACT THAT YOU’RE PISSED BECAUSE YOU NO LONGER WORK AT WANB.

YOUR LIST LOOKS GOOD, BUT THE FACT IS, 15 (FIFTEEN!) OF THE FIRST 19 NAMES (PEOPLE) WERE NEVER EMPLOYED BY BCI. THEY WERE EMPLOYED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER WITH MOST DATING BACK MANY YEARS - L O N G BEFORE 2002. PEOPLE I’VE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF.

HOWEVER, TO BE PERFECTLY CANDID, I DID ELIMINATE TWO POSITIONS RESULTING IN TWO OF THE LISTED PEOPLE BEING TERMINATED FROM EMPLOYMENT. TWO ADDITIONAL PEOPLE ON YOU NICE LITTLE LIST (WHO HANDLED SALES) LEFT THE RADIO INDUSTRY IN 2006 WHEN THEY WERE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT WITH MAJOR CORPORATIONS, RESULTING IN A CONSIDERABLE COMPENSATION INCREASE AND CERTAIN BENEFITS THAT A SMALL RURALLY LOCATED RADIO STATION CANNOT MATCH.

THE SPORTS POSITIONS AT WANB HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SEASONAL/CASUAL/PART-TIME “PLAY-BY-PLAY” FOR THE SPORTING EVENTS FOOTBALL, WRESTLING, AND SOME BASKETBALL THAT WANB WOULD BROADCAST DURING THE GIVEN SPORTS SEASON. AS OF DECEMBER OF LAST YEAR, ONLY TWO OF THE LISTED SPORTS BROADCASTERS WERE ACTUALLY ON OUR PLAY-BY-PLAY ROSTER. AS WE WERE GETTING SET TO KICK OFF WRESTLING COVERAGE, BOTH OF THESE GENTLEMEN, JASON AND LANFORD, DECIDED TO START THEIR OWN INTERNET SPORTS SITE (WHICH HAD BEEN A LONG TIME DESIRE): GREENSPORTS.NET -DESIGNED TO COVER A WIDE VARIETY OF GREENE COUNTY SPORTING EVENTS, AND ELECTED TO DO SPORTS ON THEIR INTERNET SITE AND NO LONGER ON WANB.

SALES, AS AN OWNER-OPERATOR, I PERSONALLY HANDLE THE ADVERTISING SALES AT WANB. THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON IN SMALL MARKET RADIO. ALSO IT’S A FACT OF LIFE IN TODAY’S COMPETITIVE RADIO ENVIRONMENT THAT ADVERTISERS DO IN FACT USE A VARIETY OF MEDIA OUTLETS.

IS THE CHANGE STUPID?

JOHN, YOU MAY THINK SO, BUT THAT DOESN’T SURPRISE ME. (ADDITIONAL THOUGHT WITHELD)

OF COURSE (JJ), I REALIZE YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND ANY PERPECTIVE BUT YOUR OWN.

HOWEVER FROM MY PERSPECTIVE THE CHANGE IS ACTUALLY A VERY GOOD MOVE CREATING A NEW, EXPANDED COVERAGE AREA AND FORMAT FOR 103.1, WHILE CONTINUING THE COOL-COUNTRY FORMAT ON 105.1 AND 1210.

THANKYOU JOHN FOR YOUR NICE COMMENTS, NICE PEOPLE LIKE YOU DON’T COME ALONG EVERY DAY. AND THANKYOU FOR GIVING ME PART OF YOUR MISERABLE DAY.

anybody know what Stevens plans are for Greene county? will the "local" station be on 105.1 or will it just be an am station at 1210? WANB hs been at 103.1 for 32 years. people will be confused at best. Maby Stevens will just sell 105.1. just asking to see if anybody has any info.

The local Greene County station, cool country WANB will be on 105.1 and 1210.

People will not be "confused at best" as we have been promoting 105.1; in fact, calling the station cool country 105.1 for at least four months now.

Additionally, when the Waynesburg 103.1 transmitter is taken out of service, a looped announcement from the new transmitter tower site will air continually for several days, directing listeners to make the change to 105.1.

The 105.1 antenna is currently mounted on our Gordon Hill tower and will continue from that location. However, the present 105.1 antenna will be replaced within the next month with a new antenna that will be placed at the top of our tower in place of the current 103.1 antenna.

104.1 will be re-broadcasting the classsic rock format from 103.1.

Just know:

105.1 and 1210: cool country. 8)

103.1 and 104.1: classic rock. (103 KVE)

Over the last month I've heard WKVE testing the 103.1 Mt Pleasant signal. They have been testing with a fairly deep classic rock format complete with ID's and sweepers. The signal was very strong in West Mifflin with it being clearly receivable on even a cheap clock radio. The sound however was badly distorted like something in the air chain was being overdriven. It will be interesting to see how the signal fares over the Pittsburgh metro area. The deep classic rock format will make a nice alternative to DVE.

It’s an interesting choice of call letters too given the classic rock format and close dial position to DVE.

Yes, I have been testing the 103.1 Mt. Pleasant signal preparing for sign-on coming within the next couple of weeks.

The format is actually album-oriented rock (AOR) from the Stones and Beetles era of the mid-to-late sixties, through the present year. So actually, the format is more than just classic rock. IT'S AWESOME ROCK, MAN!!! ~with plenty of deep cuts programmed each hour. It's where terrestrial radio meets satellite radio on your FM dial. It's what an AOR station was meant to be. Enjoy!

In the beginning, for a period of time, this is actually an automated format somewhat reminiscent to the early days of FM rock stations.

The distortion by the way, that you may have been hearing is mostly the 103.1 Waynesburg transmitter causing background interference, which is why I have been tesing ~secretively ~ way after midnight, INFUSING YOUR BRAIN WITH ROCK AND ROLL!!!

Agressively progressive, KVE.

And now, a word from a current (not former) employee of Broadcast Communications, Inc.

Ever since the WKVE call letters were granted a year ago, Bob has singlehandedly moved forward with his plans for
the FM station, some of which he has described above. There were some discussions about the possibility of other
formats, but I believe WKVE/AOR was his intention from the beginning.

He literally has done almost everything. from the choosing and dubbing of the music, to the voicing of liners, to the
adjustment of the audio processing. Yes, there has been help with engineering, building studios, etc., but this is a
one-man show in nearly every other respect.

It is a rare thing in this day and age to have one person entirely responsible for the content of a radio station - let
alone the owner - but that is the case here.

I say this to give credit where credit is due and to avoid any misunderstandings. What you will hear when the new
103 KVE debuts is completely Bob's creation.

Listen for it, coming very soon on 103.1 FM!

whoa....just had a flashback to reading off the ol' telex machine....

I am also looking forward to checking it out as Allegheny County NEEDS some REAL CLASSIC ROCK!.

DVE, which use to be one of my all time favorites since I was a little kid, thoroughly disgusts me anymore. Same crap over and over.

I hope Bobs KVE will somewhat be like the old KMZ in W VA. Kick *SS classic rock!

HEY TREF!

I worked with you at WEIR-AM 1430 back in the 80's.

We were still at those wonderful studios on Pennsylvania Avenue.

I think you did A.M. Drive, Mary Lou was doing Mid-Days, P.M. Drive was handled by Dave Anthony & Captain Larry Michael did Evening.

Glad to see you are still in the area.

It seems like us "OLD RADIO PEOPLE" have managed to stay in this business one way or another.

I tuned to 103.1 WKVE on Friday night into Saturday Morning, Good Clear Signal into Wexford Franklin Park Area.[The old WYDD is Alive and Well.] ;)A True Throw Back into the 70's. Looking Forward to Full Time KVE 103.

As of this afternoon, the old 103.1 transmitter at Waynesburg has gone silent. The new transmitter site, licensed to
Mt. Pleasant, is on the air with a loop directing WANB listeners to 105.1 FM and 1210 AM. The new "103 KVE" will be
on the air soon, possibly by the start of next week. Please feel free to post your reception reports of the new 103.1
signal.

KVE COMES IN LIKE "CRAP" IN WESTERN GREENE COUNTY.

I HAVE A FAR BETTER SIGNAL FROM "102.5 WDVE" & 103.5 WOGH-FM FROGGY.

AT LEAST "COOL COUNTRY 105.1" IS COMING IN A BIT.
W286AL

The weather is heating up, snow is melting & advertisers are flowing out of Greene County to other "REPUTABLE RADIO STATIONS.
