WNOX call letters

The old man Pirkle lives in a cave near Cross Mountain. Has only come into to town to cash his monthly check from Citadel. He has long hair and a beard. Loves the fried bat lunch special at the dinner in Petros. Knoxville radio is not ready for his return!

Too bad they can't bring the call letters WROL back to East Tennessee.

How's this for coincidence?

The calls WROL are on a radio station in Boston right now. The frequency is 950 AM.

The original WROL radio station in Knoxville (the precedessor of WRJZ) and WATE (WATE-TV).. was on 950 AM.

The calls WNOX are not going anywhere.. their association as the first radio station call letters in Tennessee are too historical.

Neither are the call letters WOKI. Too much money is associated with that call letter recognition in East Tennessee.

Someone posted the Citadel/Pirkle LMA which stated if 100.3's calls were changed, Citadel had to hold the WOKI calls on another station it owns, and if the lease is terminated, both parties would cooperate in bringing the WOKI calls back to 100.3. Now that the lease was dismissed, does it still apply? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this still a diary market? If WNOX stays with 100.3 and a news talk listener writes down WNOX, do the stations end up splitting the credit? What prevents Citadel from using "WNOX" except for a quick "wokiknoxville" at the top of the hour? The Pirkles seemed to be pretty invested in keeping the WOKI calls available. Just sayin. Don't know.

The only thing I can see happening is WNOX stays in 2nd or 3rd place while WOKI languishes in the cellar for a couple of books no matter what.

If someone writes down WNOX in the diary, then the station that gets the credit is WNOX. That's excellent news for 100.3 and horrible news for 98.7.

I'm wondering if Citadel wishes they never took news/talk off of the 99s. Surely the 99 trio has better range than 98.7 and they still would have had the WNOX call letters.

And if WNOX does go to 98.7? I think there is enough confusion in the market for 98.7 to get a whole bunch of 100.3 mentions regardless of their new calls.

Nope, they've got an awful lot of cashed checks from Sports Animal advertisers over the last several years that cushion that blow more than a little bit.

Sports Animal? Making money? Preposterous.

The call letter war most have gotten worked out. When I went to work today, the Citadel building ( Olde Kingston Pike) front has been changed to reflect that WNOX-FM 98.7. WOKI is gone.

The smell of manure hangs in the air.

Ah, I think he's just f*#@#ing around. It would take an absolute idiot to think a large corporation would claim a call letter set that didn't belong to them.

Of course there are alot of people out there who think that WNOX is going to 98.7 and 100.3 is going to be ???

Well, that's the silliest shit ever. 100.3 is WNOX and is going to be WNOX until JP and JP jr. are nothing more than worm food and JP jr's kids are selling time on "RADIO MARS."

With today's news, this still doesn't seem to be resolved as far as Old Kingston Pike is concerned.

Well, maybe they should find someone who can read and understand the FCC regulations.

It's a pretty simple situation. The WNOX call sign is assigned to Oak Ridge FM Inc., the licensee of the 100.3 frequency.

If there was some sort of language or stipulation in any current agreement the call sign would have been moved to 98.7 a loooooooooooong time ago. It wasn't. I can't be. It won't be.

Any argument for or claims Mike Hammond, or anyone else in that building, are making for the WNOX call sign is just a pathetic attempt at more attention.

There was a clause in the LMA stating that Citadel would have to preserve the WOKI calls and that each party would cooperate in reassigning WOKI to 100.3 once the LMA terminated. Since the lease was breached all bets are off.

I could not have said it any better. It was Citadel's decision to not honor its contract with Pirkle. Now they want to go back and pick out something in a contract that they tore up. You can’t have it both ways.
