WQRT RealTalk/Furman factor

McConnell has talked on the air about his move to Chicago, and has opened the mike to the folks outside the studio window at WGN. He is not doing the show from Cincinnati. After leaving WLW, he also lost the national weekend show. If the Facebook crowd on WGN had its way, McConnell had better have signed a very short term lease (I think he'll do fine..but when you have tons of people p"oed that the station no longer serves 65 to death...its understandable).

ugh, he is doing the show from Cincinnati

Why the ugh?

Hey Gr8, Is Mike doing the same type of show there that he did in Cincinnati?
What is the real reason why the windy city hasn't warmed up to him?

I guess someone is going to have to be designated to go to that window that people can see into the air studio at WGN and see if it's empty. Mike was talking about getting his cable set up in Chicago. I have to question that he's sitting somewhere in Cincy fulltime.

Pretty much is the same show. For folks who are used to the older-skewing WGN, its a shock. I can imagine what would have happened if Willie had come along too!

Moving back to the Furman topic...someone please explain to me why, with the Reds poised to hit the post season for the first time in years and with the debut of a much-anticipated pitcher, Andy and Poindexter were talking about some college football team with no relevance to Cincinnati???

I understand filling time if there is nothing local to talk about, but..uhhhh....UHHHHH....

Andy, I love ya but the national show is on Saturdays and the local show is on weeknights. I switched to WLW after a while.

If McConnell is doing his Chicago radio show from Cincinnati, is Real Talk's Andy Furman doing his Fox Sports Radio show from LA?

I really like going to the WGN window in Chicago. That is radio at its best.

What i know is that you CAN see Mike behind the tinted window.....

Andy is live from his underground bunker somewhere in the Continental US? Oops, thats Mark Levin.

There aren't any Cincy stations doing that are there?

Gee, that may be something to look into.....

Is it entirely possible that if McConnell is "doing his WGN show from Cincinnati", it's because he has to be in town to take care of personal or other business? That he's visiting family or friends?

Is there any indication that he has "left" Chicago for good, to do his show from Cincinnati via ISDN permanently?

I haven't heard anything to that effect, though I'm not really plugged into the Cincinnati radio scene these days.

One article I read said as much, that McConnell was in town for unknown reasons and doing his show from WQRT for the week, others on the board seem to say that he has never done his show from WGN. McConnell did talk about getting cable service in Chicago and having his call routed to Cincinnati automatically because his cell area code was still 513. For what it's worth, even though I've never been in the wailing brigade about folks doing their show from out of town (Burbank did his show from Florida for several years; Bob Conners apparently does his WTVN morning show from Florida), Chicago is market number 3 and I wonder if that audience would be as forgiving, as they don't seem to be cutting Mike any slack the way it is (the vocal ones, at least). Got to think if you're going to do a Chicago show (as opposed to a syndicated show that happens to be heard in Chicago, it might be a good idea to live there.

I wonder if there is anything in the works to fix QRT's mornings (drive) and give the station a real shot.....

Fix as in?

You don't like A M N?
I personally thinks it's ok, but I don't think it's got enough national "star power" - most of the sheltered listeners of Porkopolis have not heard of A M N....I am not in favor of bringing in a tired local retread with nothing to say (sorry CC) either....

Where did you see that article, Gr8?

Up here in Detroit, it got out that Mitch Albom was not doing his PM Drive show, live, at the WJR studios. Word was that he was doing it from his plush digs in So. Cal.
Now, he makes a point of mentioning that this place, or that one is just a stones throw from his house in the Detroit Burbs.
Sweet and Sour..... A M N is not hosted by "stars" so i get what you're saying..... I wonder what kind of star power could be had that is local, too.

One assumes someone moving from one city to another after some 25-30 years in city #1 has business to wrap up in the other city, sometimes extending a few months (particularly a high-profile radio personality).

This is almost starting to look like the Toledo Blade's obsession with Brian Wilson moving to Virginia and broadcasting remotely on WSPD. You know, the guy who basically invented long-term talk radio ISDN fill-in, and did his Toledo show occasionally from Baltimore while "filling in" there...

If you actually buy into the story that Mike is doing his show from Cincinnati and not from WGN, then you probably are also in the "Moon landing was a fake" crowd or the "Obama is not a citizen" crowd. OR, you are just trying way too hard to find something to talk about on this board! I've been listening to Mike almost daily since his move to WGN, and he is relating enough local experiences that I give him full credit for credibility, and don't have any reason to believe this is a big charade.

glieb, I believe the moon landing was real, but McConnell did do his show from WQRT that week. Check Kiesewetter's blog.

But does it mean anything other than spending some time in Cincinnati, and still doing his show on WGN? Probably not, unless anyone can provide evidence of same.

He probably had some loose ends to deal with.

Highly doubt it would be a regular occurrence.

Not happening this week.
