WQRT RealTalk/Furman factor

By gthe way, here's an update -- I've followed Furman since his days at WLW, but f you missed this afternoon's "performance" I gotta believe it was one of his best -- ever.

Apparently they had no phone service. Normally I wouldn't believe him but I tried to call in several times and got a strange busy sort of signal. He went two hours without calls and/or guests -- it was a thing of beauty...topic to topic..like a stand-up comic...if you missed it, I'm sorry. You can have your Ken Broos -- without personality -- for my money Furman is the best, and I also believe WLW not only misses him, they need him. I mean Scott Sloan on Extra innings? Hey, is Sloan really Randy Furman?

It was quite a show and your analogy to a stand up comic is apt. I was laughing like hell yesterday.

Sloanie is Randy Furman. That is a funny bit but was really funny when Andy was on WLW. For awhile when Andy's name could not be mentioned, Sloan went by Randy Shabazz when he played the role.

And i missed it!!!!

I am a Furman Fan, to be sure.

There was a bad pair coming into the Fox 19 building and, as luck would have it, it was the "T" line for the two radio stations.

Cary had a heck of a time getting Cincinnati Bell into Fox's phone room. I guess that is where everything from the street terminates into.

I think the lines came up at around Midnight.

Don't know if anyone had a chance to hear Furman broadcast from the Boathouse Wednesday night -- wow -- what entertainment..what energy...and what guests..including Oscar Robertson...Furman pulled a lot of information out of Robertson...UC basketball, Lance Stephenson leaving, and the Big Ten expansion...oh how I miss him on WLW..I bet they miss him too...he was interviewed by TV 12 and I think it's on Thursday at 6...wonder what he'll say about his former employer? He never holds back.

That was a great show and I guess we will treated to that each week for now.

The Big O interview was very good even though I don't care much for his overall attitude.

Need some help here...am I mistaken..BUT..listening to the Reds game the other night I could have sworn I heard Brennaman mention Furman as the best sports-talk host in Cincinnati....the sound was down..but I'm sure I heard it...did anyone else?

Yep, he said it and I think it was mentioned on Willie's show.

The King of Cincinnati Sports Talk is back and he's found his groove --that's Furman on 1160 (5-7)...and not only has he found his groove, I've been tracking.

He's like a one-man promotion machine. In a week's time he's had:
a. feature on TV 12
b. mention on WLW by Marty Brennaman that he truly is the city's best sports rtalker

It doesn't get any better for him than that. Yeah, I know those across the street might look at the Real Talk ratings and sigh -- but Furman is the only live showe and he's 2 of of a 24-hour cycle -- he can't be expected to do it alone -- but he's trying. He's a pain in the a-- to LW with promotion and sponsors for sure.

It is interesting that the niche he seems to be working is to not take many callers, if any.

That sure is contrary to the usual talk show.

I wonder what is the thinking about that? 2 hours is not enough?

Almost forgot...Furman was on Sports Rock Channel 5 last Sunday night...always entertaining...my buddy is friends with Real Talk Sales Managwer Jamie(sp?) Shley(sp?)...he said Furman likes the talk format..likes the stage alone and as far as callers he hardly ever gives out the phone number..says most of the callers have nothing to add...he likens himself, he said, to Michael Savage of sports...what station if any is Savage on here?

Great comments, guys. Thanks.

Hey, Rush makes no bones about it. The show is about what he thinks. Andy can fill two hours, no problems.
Not a pain at all. Really nice person.
The numbers? WQRT has a pretty big pool to fish in. Lots of potential. They are trending up, btw.

That was one heck of in interview last night with "Whitey The Teacher". Wish we had more folks like him in the education system. Too bad he is no longer a fit to advise other generations of teachers.

That sort of non sports segment is what makes Furman special. Sure, I know most of sports talk is Bengals-Reds or Reds-Bengals but these offbeat interviews are a very entertaining break.

On another note, Andy needs to read more about the Arizona illegal immigrant law. He is misinformed about it and is knee jerk siding with false claims of Nazism being made by various illegal immigrant enablers. He should be smarter than that.

He's a sports host, he should stick to sports topics. I listen to sports talk shows when I'm tired of hearing political talk, I like to keep the two universes separated. Although the line is being blurred by the Phoenix Suns, it just bugs me. There's a guy on the Mad Dog Radio channel on XM who seems to talk politics more than sports, and he just parrots right-wing talking points the whole time. If I wanted that, there's plenty of places on the dial to hear it.

Savage is on 55KRC 7-10pm The last hour is a replay of the first hour not carried live.

So, guys, what happens when Dr. Savage moves to Noon?

Right now, the Noon feed is a rebroadcast from the previous night.

To Almaniac 27- Hah, get out of your cacoon....To talk sports in 2010 you need to talk, drugs, rape, thugs and police blotter...I listened to Furman Friday...his first several stories: LT on a rape charge, Bobby Tolan, Jr. son of former Reds player, shot...and the Pac-Man siginung with the Bengals, and his prior arrests...get real...I listen to Fox Sports, WFAN and ESPN, Furman is as good or probably better than most of them...Certainly he puts those local clowns, Eggers(sp?) and McAlister (sp?) to shame..in fact I'd rather hear the politcs (ie Phoenix Suns) than stories about a Cornhole movie or McAlister's kid and his little league team or Moe Eggers and his drinking problems or the size of his pants.

Two things:

1. That "Whitey" interview was a good one the other nbight with Furman. And it wsas sports for Alamaniac 27...Seems "Whitey" taught phys. ed. and was a coach at Woodward HS..he was 83 and was a super chat.

2. Don't know why there was a -----before movie in my last post. I listened to McAlister(sp?) the other night and the clown had the cast of Cornhole the Movie on..is that sports? in fact I don't know what it is...I immediately turned it off after hearing the host gagle that he wanted,m ugh, to be in a producer's chair...is that McAlister real or not, or is he actually a geek? Please respond...does anyone know McAlister...what's he reallyt like...listening from time to time he sounds phony.

I don't consider most of those topics politics, I'm fine with them. It's just when a sports host uses his time to bash [insert politician of choice here] instead of talking sports. Furman's usually pretty good about it, and he doesn't tend to go off the rails.

But I am starting to question The Mole's impartiality here, are you sure you're not being paid by Furman? ;)
