i just came in here to chime in on WINS' migration to FM and the end of Alt Rock in NYC as a mainstream radio format, it sucks, but in a way, this was a decision by corporate to move a AM talk format (in this case, all news radio) to a FM station because FM is the new AM and streaming is the new FM, truth be told, the market just isn't a Alt friendly market for mainstream radio anymore cause Alt like Rock in Dallas, was just too niche to be a sustainable format for radio in that market, that's why Audacy gave up the ghost and gave the frequency to the legendary 1010 WINS simlar to how KEGL in Dallas owned by iHeartRadio decided to kill a Eagle just so they can get their Freak on and build a new Sports/Hot Talk hybrid to chip away at the legendary KTCK 1310 AM (and 96.7 on the FM dial in more recent times) The Ticket and KRLD FM 105.3 The Fan's ratings as a sports station and The Ticket has been the format leader since they launched in 1993 while 105.3 The Fan has The Dallas Cowboys to keep them afloat after they launched in 2008 kicking the old Live 105.3 format and Russ Martin to the curve (Russ' death played a factor in 97.1 The Eagle's demise as well as adding Mavs Basketball radio rights before 103.3 ESPN in Dallas went bye bye, the addition of the Ben & Skin show and the Clo Raborn child porn/pedophilia scandal impacting the newly rechristened "The Treehouse" post death of Russ).
Now Dallas gets it rock from the Internet, Sirius XM, and 97.1 HD2 on HD Radio as well as the classic rock on KZPS Lone Star 92.5 and Alt 92.3's Dallas sister station KVIL Alt 103.7 (but i could see the Alt branding being phased out and harder rock hits once played on The Eagle being added on to the playlist to keep the former Eagle listeners happy).
The same could be said about New York City's Alt Rock fix, they could get it from Sirius XM's Alt Nation, 92.3 HD 2 which i'm sure may have already relaunched under the Alt format, the Audacy App and all Alt Rock stations outside the market as well as 92.3 HD2 as well as the iHeartRadio app and TuneIn for the same reason and Spotify & Pandora as well as YouTube, as i said the same in the thread about the Eagle's demise, i say if you want to follow your favorite Alt Rock acts, follow them on their websites and social media to find out what's going on with the bands and acts, for more local acts, go to the local music venues that Alt Rock acts perform to discover them and the follow them on social media.
