This should be interesting -- NASH-FM

All of this has memories of 98.7 KISS-FM!!! Emmis there sell outs too!!! Murdered 30 years of R&B too sell WRKS to ESPN. THEN the punch in the gut they ended up buying WBLS!!!! WTF?? I feel sorry for WBLS!! What will happen to them in the future??

And everyone wonders why SIRIUS XM RADIO HAVE OVER 3 BILLION SUBSCRIBERS!!! THIS IS THE REASON RIGHT HERE!!! OH!! PROBABLY GOING TO GET A LOT MORE AFTER THIS ONE.

I’m sorry, three billion? Again, let’s try to keep some measure of objectivity. And somehow, a single station’s demise (everything comes to an end sometime) is going to have a material impact on subscribers?

Nothing was murdered (since it is not a living thing). The FCC has no legal basis to stop such a sale. There is no reason to believe there was a line of qualified buyers in a bidding war. Businesses have a fiduciary responsibility to manage the business to maximize results. All things come to an end.

Dear God, how bitter are you? I understand losing a gig or two making one upset for a time, but you take it to a higher echelon.

Simply put, KISS and WBLS were splitting the market and ther was not enough revenue to sustain both. Emmis dud a great thing in eliminating one of them and reinforcing the other. You are criticizing one of the best broadcast groups in recent memory, one that invest More in programming than most.

I was just talking to them the other day and that is what they told me!! OPPS!! Someone at Sirius XM Radio is telling me a fib!!

3 billion is nearly ten times the population of the USA. You obviously misunderstood.

In its press release announcing the station swap with Cumulus, Entercom states, “We are excited to add NASH FM 94.7 to our outstanding lineup in NEW YORK CITY and to add WMAS and WHLL..."
The fact that Entercom referred to the NYC station as Nash FM, instead of WNSH may be an indication they will retain the current Country programming on 94.7. Perhaps they can even license the Nash name from Cumulus, since the station has been promoted under that name for 6 years.

If that's the intent, I'm sure it's in the sales contract, along with a commitment to the evening & overnight syndicated shows for a few years.

So sad that EMF will put some crap Christian music box that's also on hundreds of other stations on such a great signal.

"Crap Christian Music Box"? Most will tell you that EMF puts out a pretty good product.

Also, does it matter that it is "on hundreds of other stations"? It only matters if it's on where someone can receive it.

BTW...CBS News is also on "hundreds of stations"...does that make it bad?

Cumulus could have sold plj to someone else to keep it alive!!! I wonder how they sleep at night knowing they just murdered another great radio station!!!

I'm sure they sleep fine.

I am so pissed off about this crap!!! I am so tired of this crap!!! If i was the head of the fcc i would have totally stopped this sale!! Big time!!!

On what basis?

And a way to brainwash the consuming public.

How does it do that?.

I like to know where emf gets all this money to buys stations when they don't have any commercials!!

Donations. People willingly give to keep the programming on the air. I am getting the idea "thebeach33445" doesn't understand much about this business and is spewing more and more nonsense.

Rich Christians who see it as their mission in life.

And 'not so rich' Christians.

THE SAD REALITY IS THAT BROADCASTERS COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THERE EMPLOYEES AND LISTENERS THAT HELP RUN THERE STATIONS. THEY HAVE NO HEART!!! THEY WILL THROW YOU UNDER THE BUS!!! I SHOULD KNOW BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO ME!!!

IF I WAS A BROADCASTER I WOULD SELL MY STATION TO A BROADCASTER THAT WILL MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE EMPLOYEES AND FORMAT OF THE STATION. NOT TO THE FIRST BIG DOLLAR BILL THAT COMES along. I WOULD NEVER BE A SELL OUT!!!

Management’s first loyalty is to shareholders. This is a real business, not a philosophical endeavor.

Sales, changes and layoffs happen in every business. I’ve been on both sides of that equation in my lifetime. Being on the short end stinks. Big time. But business has been business for a long time. You don’t conjure buyers out of thin air, and somehow extract ludicrous promises about retaining a format. That’s just not how things work in the real world.

They will have to dump the NASH-FM name, which Cumulus owns
NASH-FM will be essentially the same with some minor tweaks.

I have a question since I am not in the radio business. NASH-FM will go to Entercom in an LMA. Is this a legal way of circumventing the maximum number of stations a company can own in a market?

My speculation as a hobbyist:

Christian music and the WKLV calls will come to 95.5 FM. Cumulus will park the WPLJ calls in a small market. The station now at 96.7 HD2 will move to 96.7 HD1 with different calls.

Maybe. CBS also owns a lot of brands and call letters that Entercom uses under license. They might have the same deal with Cumulus.

The reason I say that is in the Entercom press release, they specifically use the NASH name, not just the call letters. So methinks they got the use of the name, plus they will clear the Nash Nights Live show for a certain period of time. I'm sure we'll know for sure soon.

In my area where I live, we have a NASH station and Entercom currently has a station called "Froggy". Now if Cumulus completely gives up the rights to the "NASH" branding, then it would be interesting for Entercom to acquire the rights of the nightly syndicated show "Nash Nights Live" on our station. It will, however, keep the Froggy name since it is sometimes the most listened to station and is the top biller in the market.

We will certainly know for sure, but in the meantime, the speculation continues....

One thing often ignored in these transactions by radio fans, is that selling these stations to a noncommercial operator in markets where they retain other stations eliminates a competitor. Why would Entercom sell 100.3 LA for example, to a commercial operator when they could sell it to EMF? It effectively shrinks the market and positions them to capture more revenue. I doubt many of these stations were ever on the open market for other bids.

CBS news is not a 24/7 simulcast on hundreds of stations across the country. It's a newscast at the top of the hour on many stations with different formats. And that likely have employees. EMF doesn't even need an operator at the location. Not one job.

Personally, non-commercial stations should stay between 88.1 and 91.9. Just my personal feeling.

Why would Entercom spend money licensing the Nash FM name and product when they could just take the cheap way out and toss on a 1010 WINS simulcast and call it a day?

They're not spending money, it came with the station. Replacing the format with a simulcast would not make additional money.

Nash transmitter move (from RadioInsight)
Concurrent with the sale applications, Entercom has applied to move 94.7 WNSH Newark NJ to one of the Lyndhurst NJ towers currently utilized by iHeartMedia’s 710 WOR New York. From the new site WNSH will operate with 40kW/166m. That brings the station as far east as it can go without creating interference to 94.3 WWSK Smithtown NY. 94.7 WMAS-FM Enfield CT/Springfield MA will add a directional null to the southwest to remove interference to WNSH while remaining at its current 50kW/55m antenna.

Is the small amount of coverage change worth the move?
