He sure does. I'm hearing him now. The clock radio will turn itself off, but that's okay. In the winter interference gets bad this time of day. If I can find another clock radio that stays on for two hours like in the morning and is as cheap as this one, I might consider it in the summer. Though to record Mr. Huckabee when I go on vacation pretty much requires the 20-minute version, since the timer I use isn't exact and the tape recorder (yes, I have one!) is voice-activated.

In an aside to the Chimpman, some of the riffs by Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington were as good as any Rock'n'Roll.

Why not a really old folks station that rips down the roof.????? Acts like the Duke,the Count, Hank Sr, Bob Wills, Mother Maybelle, Fats Waller, Muddy, and Benny Goodman. Combine old schol jazz, blues, big bands, Texas Swing, and traditional country. Nothing performed after 1955. You could call it "ROOTS RADIO" Sounds good at the moment. Might sound sucky in the morning.

MsMusic., with respect, your idea is much the same as chimps' whose posts here, generally, judge music ONLY by HIS ear, and not for radio commercial sales, as a radio broadcaster MUST do

Chimp gets miffed when the national programmers of those nostalgia formats add songs that attract YOUNGER listeners, as the MUST. Example; "The guitars in Guitar Man" are a chronic irritation for him.

I ssuggest you read some of David Eduardo's posts on this board, (God knows there are many) and you'll learn why some "newer" "hipper" music gets added to those "nostalgia" formats.

That's why it's called "BROADCASTING" and not Msmusic casting (aimed at you) or "chimpcasting" (aimed at Mr. Vchimp).

The difficulty with your idea is, that you are programming to YOU, not a sales demographic. Your suggestion of playing "nothing after 1955" means most people who listen would be roughly 75 years old. That age group may like your sound. Others would have NO emotional connection to what is on, and say, "what the heck is that station playing?"

Another caution would be that most of the people who would enjoy that music are DEAD, is in order. Tht's the reason why there are no stations doing this. Also, mixing country and r & b as you do will complicate the issue.

To accomplish your idea, you'll need a great staff of "older" LOCAL salespeople (who understand "mscasting" (good luck with that) and most important, a ton of money going in, so you can survive, before you'll have to change the format. Go to the bank NOW!

Otherwise, what you suggest is GREAT - but, for your personal i-pod or for a "station" on "Pandora." You both would LOVE Pandora.Try it.

Seriously.....  There are two choices that come to mind.  Both online.  "Roots of rock" (www.loudcity.com/stations/rootsofrock-us ) sounds almost exactly like what you're looking for.  It's a sister station to Radio Bop, another excellent online effort.  You might also want to try KBRD (K-bird)....stream from a non-commercial terrestrial station in Lacey (Olympia), Washington.  It's a 250 watt daytimer (on 680)  but the stream goes 24/7.  This station always takes up about 90 minutes of my 2-3 times a year drive from Seattle to Portland.

Many senior "city people" would think Hank is "rough, hillbilly, etc." Mitch Miller got Tony Bennett, Jo Stafford and others to cover his (wonderfully written) songs for a more mass audience.

Believe it or not, we actually play a couple of Hank Sr. songs on KZQX-FM, as well as Jim Reeves, Patsy Kline and a few others. That’s because they were huge cross-over hits. Of course, maybe being located in East Texas has something to do with it too. Back when these songs were popular around here, there were only two radio stations in the area, and they played both kinds of music: Country and Western!

You do realize a few years ago Westwood One adult standards was virtually ignoring the real standards in favor of adult contemporary music. Surely not all of that music survived when Dial Global took over and things started sounding right again.
