WQRT RealTalk/Furman factor

I'd rather get Imus on RealTalk in the morning, but I might try Jerry Thomas as well.

I'd also love SOME station to give Dennis Miller a try. Please, oh pretty please RealTalk?

I just, for the life of me, understand why the host of "America's Morning News" is yelling every morning. I *want* to like that show, but....nope. If I want to be screamed at in the morning, I'll call my wife by her sisters name.

Now THAT's funny!

Miller is a sore spot. We were one of the first ones in Lexington to sign up for him and got stiffed by one of the big boys that came to the table late and literally snatched the show from us within two weeks of the launch. REAL SORE SPOT.
Oh, yeah, the big boy station tape delayed him when it just did not click THEN dumped the show (which we would not have done).
In Cincy? Ingraham and Savage are just fine. I have always been an IMUS fan. How much longer do you really think he'll be doing the show?

Imus just turned 70 yrs old and his present show isn't as good as his previous syndicated show, as he has slowed down a bit. That being said,Imus does a decent show with his cast of others he now has surrounding him.

Just for fun, I went back into my old Maximiser files and found out some interesting information about the old WBOB during the Bengals years. The station's highest 12+ number was a 1.0 share in Fall '98. Cume was 59,600. During the non-Bengal books, cume was averaging 37,000 with higher cumes in the Summer.

Imus did OK, relatively speaking. WBOB was WKYN (The SCORE) before it became BOB on May 1, 1997.

In Fall '96, Imus did a 12+ .9 with 15,900 cume. Men 18-34: 1.0/4000 Men 25-54: 2.4/11,600

In Fall '97, he was up to a 1.1 with 17,400 cume. Men 18-34: 1.0/5000 Men 25-54: 1.5/8700

Four book average: 12+ .9 with 15,500 cume. Men 18-34: 1.6/5100 Men 25-54: 1.7/9700

Imus is 70, but that's not old these days. The show is still funny, what little I see of it.

You start to see some pretty good numbers in afternoons with 2s and 3s with men and cumes over 20,000 from '96 to '99. The station did very well with Men 18-49. REAL well. Midday show was up to a 5.7 in Summer '98. Afternoons and mornings were in the 3s.

Something else very interesting...during Bengals games in the Sunday 3pm to 7pm daypart, WBOB had a 12+ 4.2 share, while WLW had a 4.3 12+ share.

This little station CAN make some noise.

1160 would have to have a local lineup during the day in order to accomplish this again. I just don't think Dr Laura is going to get it done.

It's too expensive to do a local line-up during the day. Furman was a good pick-up for RealTalk and, while I could eat a bean burrito laced with Ex-Lax and STILL not be able to give a crap about Notre Dame football, they're making an effort on the sports side and that's great.

I can't remember how long Imus' last contract was for, but it was long-term. I *want* to say five years, but I'm not sure. The show is not as ribald <a word you NEVER hear spoken, only written> as it used to be, but I still think he's the best interviewer on radio and the comics are great. I don't NEED him on radio here in Cincy since the show is on TV, but it would be nice.

and jry....it's not OUR fault you got hosed in Lexington! I promise, we don't hose in Cincinnati. You may get cornholed, but that's totally different! ;-)

Funny, DJ.

There is some talk about more local going on in the halls of 1160....

I really like local stuff.

Heck, up here, WJR has a stranglehold on things because of their localism.

We talked about Miller, too.

The objective is to provide the best product possible for a market near and dear to my heart, Cincy.

I'll admit I was skeptical about you guys at first, I've seen second (third?) tier talk stations fail here and in many other markets before. I'm still doubtful, but I do wish you the best, I'd really like to see a viable talk station in this market that's not owned by Clear Channel. Maybe you can get some of the old Supertalk weekend hosts, I remember enjoying the Weasel & Notorious. Don't ask me why, I just did.

Thanks for the kind words. WQRT is what you'd call the third guy in the race. I do think that we have some A list programs, though.
Ramsey, Ingraham, Dr. Laura, all top ten talent. Locally, Furman falls into that top ten number.

Yeah, sorry...I was trying to get my T&R together to drop off downtown. ;-)

I saw that Andy news this morning and was over on FB congratulating him. It'll be interesting to hear him on a national stage. I didn't get to hear the two "try out" shows.

Heard the Furball on FSR today. Now what is Fox gonna do, they've hired their first intelligent sports talk host! Andy is so much better than the usual FSR idiots who spend more time talking over each other and trying to prove "who's da' biggest playa" than they do actually talking sports. His interview with Paul O'Neill was superb today, and very timely. Wishin' you the best Furball!!!!

Finally, we know who Uncas is -- TV 5's Ken Broo...wow, Ken don't you have better things to do than play on here?

I hope you are joking! While I really like Broo on the radio, I am a listener, not an industry person. Never worked a day in my life in the media.

I did meet Broo a couple of times years ago when our kids were in school but that's it. A lot of radio and TV folks have lived in my township over the years but they were never part of our circle of friends.

Yeah, I caught the Furball on WONE in Dayton...not surprised..he held his ground and as always intelligent, great questions and a sense of humor...that sidekick of his is too damn stiff for me.

As an aside, I scan the radio landscape, listen much -- talk and sports -- and now check the blogs/websites. As for this Lance McAlister( sp?) dude, he'll welcome and send his congrats to one and all. The latest I read was Rick Minter the former UC football coach now at Indiana State...he's sent his well wishes to media types as well.

So when Andy Furman got his gig at Real Talk 1160, nio mention...then Furman sat in for Stephen A. Smith on his "brother" station (1360) no mention...and when Furman got the Fox Sports Radio Saturday gig, no mention...was there a problem between them -- or is Lance just intimidated by his ghost? As for me, I'd sooner see Furman dump the FSR and return to WLW at night.

I'm tired of the shows on children's games, and the phony laugh...and of course, the talk of his kid...I know, a no-no...I believe personal life and problems should be off the air..he uses his as a crutch..hey, Ken Broo had a heart attack..does he talk about it? and his wife's got cancer..no mention..and I think Furman adopted some kids from Rumania (?) never talks about it..think about that.

I think they do mention this stuff once in a blue moon or a caller might bring it up. I think it is ok in moderation. I kind of like knowing these guys on a virtual personal level. But you are right, Lance does it too much.

Furman must worry Lance or maybe they did not get along. I know Trumpy about hammered Lance at one point but I guess they patched it up.

So I listened to Furman last night around 6:30 -- he was interviewing Rob Dibble...wonderful conversatin -- but I thought those two were feuding from years back...what gives?
