KBSZ A.J.

KBSZ may be heard on FM (barely). KBSZ owners bought one of the translators on Mt. Ord and, pending FCC approval, will be broadcasting KBSZ AM on 96.1 FM licensed to Ft. Mcdowell. They also have a CP for a class A and future C3 at 97.3 on 8,000' pinal mountains near Globe (KIKO-FM).

Well, that 96.1 can't go too much south of AJ, or they'll be bumping up against KLPX in Tucson.

97.3 used to be KRXS...is it still?

I think that's the station that is now KRDE 94.1.

Also playing the move-in game...

KRDE 94.1 Globe has a CP to upgrade C2 to C1, up the ERP, and change
COL to San Carlos, all from the same tower site.

The primary benefit of this new COL further east than the present one?
Serving the growing town of San Carlos? Nope, a better signal into...
(the East Valley part of) metro Phoenix.

Guess they want to "own" Pinal County. Why is anyone's guess! The ownership is all the same: 1TV.com, inc. - good luck finding that web page, though.

Yo, 1260-meisters! Are you aware you can power up at 5:30 AM
this month?

I've yet to hear KBSZ going full-bore with 800 watts until at least
sometime in the 6:00 hour.

The morning dj begins at 6am....probably the reason for the late power-up! Meanwhile Nurse Jeff has requested a DX card from the 12~Sixty C.E. If 12~Eighty isn't hitting too many positive peaks; there's an APS power outage, and the Deweypoint is less than 55 degrees, we can pick 'em up in Buckeye!

The guy who owns KBSZ is a dirtbag named John Low ~ hence his 1tv.com company which has purchased some very low budget operations -- like KIKO. He plans to chain them together and sell it as a Phoenix movin facility - good luck with all that John!

Tonight (Thursday 5/13) for those in the range of their 50 watt signal, they're playing the #7 1961 hit "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" by Curtis Lee every 2-3 songs (probably the most times this song has been played in nearly 50 years). I'm guessing they have it set as a sweeper in their automation system by accident.

There's a morning DJ? I thought it was just sweepers and songs.

KRDE is locally owned by someone who actually lives in Globe. (shocker!) It looks like they had a deal to sell the place to Sunburst Media (which sounds like a First Broadcasting subsidiary but I'm not sure) last year but it didn't close based on the FCC filings. But yes, upgrade it and cash in appears to be the name of the game.

Everybody sees what kind of money the Shoecrafts got for KIKO-FM back in the day and they see dollar signs. Except 100.3 never was great as a Phoenix move-in and the other Globe signals were lower power to begin with. Given the economy, you've got as much of a chance to get good money for a move-in as you do in leasing a strip mall in Queen Creek. But they'll all keep trying.

It's been fixed...sort of. Now it's airing about every 20 minutes.

Maybe they borrowed a spare lamptimer from Gumpdusky to run the automation. ;)

96.1??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! KLPX already got kicked in the teeth in the E.V. by that upstart espanol estacion. Now KBSZ is gonna finish it off?? I hope I can still hear KLPX in the warehouse parking lot off 41st and Washington, where it practically comes in like a local.

(I hope that 96.1 is a Class C here.) ;D

KLPX is a full C; it's one of the big sticks in Tucson on Tower Peak:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?stat...&slat2=&NS=N&dlon2=&mlon2=&slon2=&EW=W&size=9

However, its protected contour (if I understand the FCC maps correctly)
gets out only as far as Casa Grande/Coolidge/Florence:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM147919.html

Some of the other full Cs in Tucson (Cloud 95 and KIIM, for example)
show a similar contour, even though they're normally good in the 'Tuke
and other "pockets" in the metro.

Just noticed the translator was moved from Mt. Ord to Usery Mountains with 250 watts at about 1,400' above the valley floor. So, looks like KLPX will be no more in the East valley. Even if they get denied for 96.1, they will still interfere with KLPX in some areas at 95.9.

In a similar vein to Curtis Lee* from a few days ago, this afternoon
McCartney's Listen To What The Man Said was getting a spin every
third song on either side of 4:00.

Around 7:00 it still aired a couple of times in a half-hour or so period.

*: Closed circuit for KLL...according to Joel (Whitburn, not Grey), Curtis Lee
was born in Yuma, so he qualifies as an Arizona artist if you can get the
Nearly Bald One to go for your Rejoiner Friday idea. :)

Now they're repeating Dedicated To The One I Love (Mamas & Papas)
in adjacent quarter-hours.

Maybe it's a test by the KBSZers, to see how many mentions they get
on R-I from the 12 hard-core radio geeks listening. ;)

12?? You're being quite generous, O.F. If there are more than five, Nurse Jeff and I'd be surprised. And we can't be counted as the Nifty 12~Sixty doesn't reach Buckeye well enough to occupy a preset on the Gremlin's radio!
